Hydraulic Question

I am a tractor newbie here so please bear with me. I have a 1974 John Deere 1530 tractor. Underneath where your right foot would be if you are sitting on the tractor is a small hydraulic unit of some sort that is leaking around where it attaches to the frame. What is this unit? The hydraulic control lever has lines running to it along with the brakes. The hydraulic filter housing sits right next to it. Any help would be great. Thanks.

Sounds like it might be the selective control valve body - here - John Deere - Parts Catalog

Dig around here a bit and see if anything strikes your fancy...

That is it. What does it do? It is over $1,000 and I don't want to replace it if I can get by without it. Would there be anyway to stop the leak without replacing it? It is leaking around where the housing meets the frame. Also, I noticed today that I'm having a hard time hooking up the rear remote hydraulics to a cylinder, would this have anything to do with that? I know they are the right fittings because they were hooked up yesterday. I know that's a lot of questions. Thanks for the help.

After looking at the tractor closer it is not the scv. This unit sits below that under the tractor and has a small cylinder shaped something coming out the side of it.

Are you talking about the hydraulic filter housing? Does it have a bolt in the center of this?

Don't know about the 1530 for sure but the selective control valves on some of the models were beneath the right side of the seat above the rear axle.
