Seems everything is slippery on ice. Wonder why that is /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

And I looked again and they don't seem to have corks... I must have been thinking of the set hanging in the neighbours barn...

WOW /forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif I AM SUPER IMPRESSED! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

That is one super nice rig you have customized there.

I was cautioned by a tractor repair shop about using a tractor remote to run an hydraulic motor. I was looking at hooking up to a Ford 5600 (60 pto hp, gear tranny). There is a possibility of heating up the hydraulic fluid and damaging seals in some cases. /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

To be on the safe side, you can install a oil temp gauge that tops out around 300 degrees where it can monitor the transmission fluid temperature. It's cheap insurance. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Make sure you put the hi-test cable on the rig. The winch looks good! Good luck!

Hmmm, perhaps you could get a hydraulic fluid cooler off a 'Bota HST and plumb it off the low pressure return and mount it in front of the radiator.

We just got a new L39 TLB with GST transmission and it has a hydraulic cooler just like I described in front of the radiator.

I'd buy a cheap gauge first rather than get into extra plumbing. A mechanical gauge shouldn't take long to install just for a safety check. If the fluid temperature skyrockets, then some sort of cooler could be added. By using the gauge first he can get a baseline of the fluid temp under normal conditions. That way, he'll know for sure the motor is socking it to his transmission if the temp pegs after he uses the winch.

If he does need to add a cooler, the gauge will tell him if it does the job.

Those chains are called "bear paws" after the bear paw snowshoe. The loggers call them stump jumpers and you will see why when you get in the woods. Just be sure at least one wheel will slip just a little or you could cut an axle.

Never heard them called bearpaws before. The logging supply stores call them ring chains around here. My father ran them on his all his "skidders" (first three were tractors, then a Clark 664 and finally a Ranger 666) until someone mentioned the u shaped studded chains.

iv'e already run the winch on the tractor and didn't notice any heat issues. if it runs hot i'll add a high pressure plate and fin cooler and an electric fan if needed.

i would think that the thermal mass of the transmission would be able to deal with any heat generated from that little motor.

That's what I thought, especially on a 60 hp, until I ran the idea past the tractor mechanics. They didn't even stop to think about it. Both the old man and his son piped up right way that it wasn't a good idea. They sell both used tractors and carry new Kiotis. The old man has been there since the sixties. I've gotten a lot of good info and the 5600 from them.

I didn't read about your winch test. Were you able to load the winch and work it to see what happened?
