John deere 270
I have a john deere 270 I recently purchased. Machine was not runn9ng so it had to be pulled onto trailer with a winch. I have since got it running and it runs great. However I have noticed 2 issues with the hydraulics
1. The boom raises fast but lowers terribly slow. Low 60 seconds from top to bottom if not more
2. Second issue is the right side wheels do not move. Will rock back and forth with lever but not move. I did inspect chain case and all looked well.
Not sure where to start any help is greatly appreciated

Is this a 270 skid steer? If yes does the engine sound like it is laboring when lowering the boom?

Right side drive: Do you get any movement or change of engine sound when attempting to move either direction?

Inspect the chain case. See if the chain is broke or jumping. Is it making any kind of noise?

The boom not lowering.....does the curl functions work fine? Does the raise/lower pedal feel like its actually moving all the way or is it bound or have something under it (stick/frozen mud/etc)

Inspected chain case chain and gear look good.the tilt function is a little slow but seems to be working. And I can see the actual piston moving full range of motion for the boom function area is very clean.
And yes skid steer
Right dive drive will rock forward and rock in reverse but will not drive at all.
And engine does not labor when lowering the boom. More of a hydraulic under pressure sound. But no squealing sounds at all.

The drop is controlled by a knob under the seat, should be right in the middle between your legs. People have been known to accidentally kicked the knob to the point of closing it off. Can you post photo of the area?

I don't really understand your 2nd question... The wheels are locked up? You can move them a little bit with a breaker bar??? (lever?)
This is on a John deere 270 skid steer.
And when I move my lever forward to power the right wheels it just rocks a little forward and the same for reverse but no other movement. Inspected chain case and chain looks good

Are there any heavy equipment mechanics in your area? Skidloaders are pretty complex hydraulically. Combination of hydraulics and electronics. And very difficult to diagnose and troubleshoot over an internet forum.

Do the basics.....check the oil levels, change the filters.....maybe take the drive chain off and see if the wheels actually spin freely, etc.

What is the history of the skidloader? Was it sold because it was broke? When did it last work? What were the symptoms that lead up to this?

It had belonged to a church used for clearing snow in winter. It wouldn't run when I bought it due to a broken ring gear(no idea how that broke). I removed main pump covered all lines replaced the ring gear on flywheel. Reinstalled pump and started machine for first time. And here I am now.

Go back over your work with a fine tooth comb. I am betting something was forgotton.

Dont know on the 270 if it has a hydraulic lock for both drives or just one lock for the whole unit. But that would be a place to start.

Dont know how many times you have tried either....but if not many, its also possible that there is still air in the system that you havent got blead out yet

Sounds like air lock on side that don't move. Or you have a line crossed up. If it was driving when the Church parked it, it should drive now. So, a pilot valve may not have fluid so it can work. Also make sure fuses are good and solenoids are plugged in. And, ohm magnetic solenoids.
