Hydraulic hose bulge

I’ve run into some manufacturers going up one size on the hex, Parker and Eaton are common offenders.

Going by the pic, it looks like -6 to me. But double check with a set of verniers and a thread gauge.

Im pretty sure the Napa near you in Dover carries hydraulic fittings, maybe call them tomorrow and see if they make hoses. If they do, they can duplicate yours no problem.

And replace that fitting! It looks like a 2404-6-6.

Tractor supply carries those in a pinch too.

Got this old backhoe last year for pennies. First thing I did was new filter and fresh transdraulic fluid. Probably put on 20 hours last year and an hour this week. Today I just needed to dig a small hole to plant a tree. I was able to finish the hole, pack it up and put the tractor back in its home before I realized this huge bulge. What’s going on here? It amazes me that I was able to finish digging the hole.View attachment 1345774

One other thing that can greatly contribute to early hose failure is improper hose routing. I wouldn’t rout the new one like the old rubbing against the lower hose, can’t be the original route. 1or 2 hose clamps securing it to the cylinder barrel be better I’d think.
Always eliminate abrasion points, twists and tight radius bends.Ive seen poor routing on new equipment that I’ve had to reroute.

I had a FEL. hose swell inside of it. A sharp bend in the routing. Pinch the Hyd flow almost off. After a Hyd. Filter and fluid change made it worse. Pulled it back down and Lucky I looked inside the hose. Suction to the pump. Holy wow!! when I seen it. Wasn't ballooned like that but swelled up!
