Hydraulic guestion

I need a single acting cylinder about 40 inches retracted, 4 inch piston, 2 inch rod, 30inch stroke , for my dump trailer. I'm going to use a 12 volt power unit(single acting with solenoid valve) I can't seem to find the right size single acting cylinder anywhere.
Can I use a double acting cylinder ( I can find the right size) and use it as a single acting cylinder with out any problems.

Have you tried Surplus Center?
They have single and double acting cylinders that are pretty close to your specs, like this

These may not be exactly what you need (one is a center trunion mount), but they have a pretty good selection and the prices are resonable too!

I believe it is possible to use a DA in a SA implementation, you just have to install a bleed valve in the unused port. If I'm wrong here, some one please correct me.

You can use a DA as an SA, just get a vent plug for the unused port. I believe Northern Tool still has them.

I have a single action cylinder at home. The length is going to be close but I don't the the diameter is that large. I will check this afternoon.
