got me thinking. My local Mahindra dealer is also a Massey dealer. He stocks and reccomended the Permatran (sp?) fluid for my 300hr service on my Mahindra hydro tractor. He doesn't stock a synthetic fluid. With so many TBN'ers using Kubota synthetic, how do you guys feel the Permatran compares?

Mornin Torin,
My local Case IH / Kubota dealer, Salem Farm Supply, also stocks the Permatran fluid. When I changed out the hydro fluid and filters in My Massey 1040 I used the Permatran Fluid. IMO as long as the fluid your putting in the tractor meets all the specs, that particular manufacturer requires, there should be no problem ! My machine runs fine with Permatran !

BTW, have you been up my way lately ?

I don't know how Permatran compares to Kubota fluid, but I do know that I have seen MF tractors that have been working fine before a fluid change. The owner would put some other brand in and then start having problems. We would get him to put Permatran back in and the problems would go away. I saw that happen 3 or 4 different times when I was working on tractors for a living.

Kind of just like the current thread in the Kubota forum about SUDT. There are many lubricant manufacturers that may make a fluid that "meets" spec. Some are better than others. When you get something cheap it's usually for a reason. In lubricants it's usually because the more expensive lubricant uses a better base stock of oil and a much higher level for their additive package. Buy a premium fluid and you can expect premium results. Buy cheap fluid and who knows what you will end up with.

Thanks for the help guys, I'll go with the permatran and not think anymore about it.
Torin

Scotty,
I was up that way about a month ago, I need to get back there. I keep hoping we actually see spring at some point!

Wait! consider AMSOIL synthetic, better specs. especially in low temp. conditions. Costs more, but in my opinion much higher quality product.
