I too had a real fun time trying to get the 1st oil filter off the DK-40. I used a plastic handle rubber belt type strap wrench but as many have found it is real close and hard to get any leverage or torque on the filter. Dealer told me they bake them on when they paint the engine, which is why they come off so hard.
Sometimes a regular type oil wrench with a piece of sandpaper against the filter will work to add traction to the grip.
I think I'll add what GRSthegreat showed to my toolbox. Like you said- doesn't look to impressive, but if it works then it works- hate to get in too close and do damage to a hand, etc. Bigger bar, 1/2 ratchet, that sounds persuasive.

The manual says 11.6 gal.
My 2001 model DK 35 (same as the 2004 model) usually takes around 10 or 11 gal on a fluid/filter change
Thanks Vince!
I used the Shell Spirax S4 TXM, bought 2- 5 gallon tubs. I guess Ill have to buy another. Ouch! Thanks!
