See if you can get a pipe the ID size fo the cyl. put a block of wood over the pipe and hit it with a hammer. That gland has been in there for a long time.

My search came up zilch. I was also looking for diagram or anything that would show how this cylinder was assembled. No luck. I see two different options: the first is what Leejohn is referring to, that if you knock down the gland it will reveal a wire spring clip that you would remove. The second is that this gland has a snap ring that locks in when assembled, never to see the light of day again. In other words, a disposable cylinder. Let us know how you make out.

If you ordered the same cyl you posted, then this is what the description says.

Welded cylinder with snap-ring gland retainer.

I think you need to push down on the gland and find the snapring.

Thanks guys appreciate the advice. For the time being I will use the cylinder as is, that is, with a 2" sleeve that limits the stroke to 3". I had in mind to reduce the stroke to 1.5" for an application but can get by with longer at least for now.

If BOTH ports are still plugged while you're trying to push the gland in, good luck (especially if there's oil already in the cylinder)... Steve

I took the plugs out and cycled the cylinder by hand to empty the oil that was inside.

On that type of cylinder you have to pry up the wiper out of the bore, you will then find a snap ring retaining the gland.

CGK, looking at the photo in post 7 the wiper is what is between the shaft and the bore, is that right? Is it removable intact or do I then need a new wiper? Thanks for suggestion.
