john deere 5420 and john deere 870
i have a 5420 john deere that blows hydrolic oil from a vent tube on top of my engine. why?

Check your hyd pump shaft seal and you need to check the hyd oil level.

Thanks for the reply but where is the pump and how do i get to it? Also the fluid level is o k . When it first started leaking from this vent tube i would have to operate it for 2 hours before it leaked and then i would replace the fluid. now it will leak 15 minutes after start up just idling. i also replaced the hydraulic screw on filter

Thanks I'm from south west tennessee and do most of my own mechanic work but am stumped by hydraulic leak

You could have a suction leak, therefore producing bubbles which will expand the fluid level and push fluid out the vent.

Look in the tank for any bubbles, and if any, look at your suction tube and fittings.

Heat will expand the fluid volume to a certain extent.
