Well, the kit (if he did it that way) was done by the original owner, or he paid someone. So, no instructions there...but you're right, I woulda thrown them away anyhow:rolleyes:

By kit. do you mean valve, connectors hoses etc? Well, the original kit (if it was done that way) had those weird connectors on it...the ones that would not connect to the WRLong connectors that were on the WRLong grapple. That's why I ended up buying a new set of connectors from WRLong...to connect to the grapple ($80) So, I suspect it prolly wasn't a WRLong kit...I could be wrong though.
I'm sorry Curly. We are mixing up new vs. old connectors here. Let's start all over again. Hope I get this right:

The parts you are looking to replace are bulkhead fittings and some hose adapters to enable hoses to be connected to the bulkhead fittings. You could go around everywhere trying to match them up... or you could go to the original supplier of those parts (which might be faster and easier). Since I am still not 100% sure exactly where you found these fittings, they could have been provided by Kioti *or* by the supplier of your 3rd function kit *or* by the person who installed your third function kit **IF** the 3rd function kit was somehow incomplete or did not contain the best parts for your tractor.

W.R. Long is not only the supplier of your new grapple... AND the supplier if your brand new couplings... but they could also have been the supplier of your 3rd function kit. They are the biggest and best known supplier of such kits... although the "mystery couplings" you found throw some doubt on this possibility. Still, I'm guessing those "mystery couplings" were either just horribly defective **OR** fitted by the previous owner of your tractor to match-up with a particular attachment he had.

So we are back to the point where I said: You need to figure out the brand and/or supplier of your tractor's 3rd function kit. This could make your life much easier since you could get hold of the parts list and parts diagram(s) and maybe even some installation instructions and an owner's manual... all via email from another TBN member or from the original supplier (I do this all the time!).

3rd function kits typically come as complete (or semi-complete) kits. Sometimes the kits are perfect for your machine and sometimes they aren't. Sometimes owners customize or figure out a better way... so there are no guarantees. But figuring out who supplied your 3rd function kit is clearly the first step toward solving your fitting replacement problems. :)

JIC bulkheads, first one has an o-ring port adaptor, second one has a pipe thread adaptor. Any hose shop should have them on the shelf. Depending on size, ballpark #, about 30 bucks.

OK, sounds good. But since it's prolly not WRLong...how would one go about figuring that out? Just look on the valve for a marking?

Same way you figure out anything around here. If you can't read a name or model number right off the valve... take some pix of the valve and controller and post them here on TBN. I 100% guarantee that someone here will fill you in on exactly what you own! :)

Then go out and get the parts list, parts drawings, installation instructions and owner's manual. I guarantee that you will need them again at some point in the future. :)

Curly, this is exactly correct and the right terminology to help you get the parts locally. Check out a hydraulic hose shop in your Yellow Pages then call them.

It would be best if you took all the fittings to the shop so they can match things up for you. It is important to understand if you have JIC, O-ring or pipe thread fittings as they are not interchangable.

Those look like the fittings for the quick disconnect plate in the W.R. Long kit, 3rd picture down in their site page here: Valve Kits

Go to the home page or contact page and get the number to call them. Nelson will be happy to help you identify exactly what to buy.

Curly, a year from now you're going to look back at all this new tractor owner stuff and laugh out loud. Yes, you will break more stuff. But every time you break something you will learn something.

I like to think that I am old, wise and at least half-way smart... a veteran mechanical engineer and all that nonsense... but each time I do something stupid and pay the price for it, I learn something and I never do it again. The tractor thing is like that. Accept it and you'll be an even happier man! :)

Ain't that the truth. I managed to destroy a brand new hydraulic coupler over the weekend by tightening it just a bit too much. In retrospect I should have realized it was aluminum not brass like the others. I smooshed it, fracturing the contact cup and thereby ruining the seal. Ah well, another $30 for a replacement hose down the tube. Lesson to self, pay attention to the material and don't over tighten. It is always easy to tighten a bit more or add teflon tape if it leaks but you can't do much with a broken fitting.

Yeah, that's what I did to get the hydralic shower, over tighten the new connector. The second one I just drove off from the grapple without unhooking the hose...crocky man.

And last week I managed to put a very expensive set of scratches in my backhoe bucket cylinder rod.

 :( :(

That's just life in the tractor world.

Allright...got the new fittings home and on the tractor. Then FINALLY got that grapple back on. I can't see that thing when I'm trying to drive into it. So, I had it kinda opened up sitting on the driveway and had my 9 yr old directing me. She said yeah, you got it, now go up. I just knocked it over. So I had to hook the chain to it and pick it back up. When I finally got it on it was dark and all I could see was a drip coming from the newly added fittings. Man, I've got nothing done since I bgt this tractor.

It'll get better...right?

Now you know why I own a nice, stable "flat-bottomed" grapple! :)
