Hi Have a hydraulic problem that has me steaming. Building a log splitter. Using what has been laying around and donated. Engine is a 24hp briggs & stratton. The hydralic pump is a commercial intertech, 312-9310-770. I know nothing about this pump, just that is new. has a 1in inlet a 1 outlet.I have a diverter valve in place 16gpm from princess auto. This is where the ram came from also. My problem is when i try to return the ram to the bottom of the cylinder. the engine goes under a severe load and stalls. When i change the hoses around the unit labours on the other side of the stroke. The control valve is new. Using a 2 spool valve because i want to add a log lifting system to this nightmare. Thanks for any and all help. Dave

Why are you using a diverter valve. Are you not going from pump to log splitter valve back to a filter and tank?

Do you have any idea of the GPM's and the psi on the pump. It could be flow and pressure tested if you really want to know.

What size is the log splitter valve, and is it a log splitter valve?

The pump may be putting out more GPM than the valve can utilize. Try running the motor at 1/4 speed.

the pump would have to be how old not to show up in the stats. It seems that when i move the control valve to activate the ram it goes into hyd lock.

Do you know for sure that you have flow out of the work ports. Remove the hose off the cyl, and place in a clean bucket and start the engine, and push the lever momentary, and pull the lever back momentary. Is there fluid flow out of both hoses?

Is the output of the pump connected to the IN port of the log splitter valve?

Have you seen the cyl shaft complete a full stroke.

Are you hooked to A and B ports or to two A's or two B's. Has to be A and B on one spool other spool plugged.

Where do you have your diverter valve plumbed in?

It needs to be plumbed in after the pump but before the directional valve. If it's not, and you have it plumbed in off of one of the directional valve work ports, it will not allow much if any oil to flow backwards through it. There are models of diverter valves that do have integral check valves to allow for this, but most places that sell those valves do not stock them that way. Share the model number.

Also, make sure you have a system relief too, plumbed in before the diverter valve (some diverter valve models have an relief built in, but the excess flow will have to be taken to tank and not another hydraulic function).

As far as the pump goes look at this link...Hydraulicstore.com - 877.778.3533 -

These are Permco pumps, but fully interchangeable with Commercial pumps. You can measure the middle section of the pump and subtract 0.75" and that's going to be the gear width. This style of pump will have 2 cubic inches per revolution per inch of gear.

Maybe you could take picture and upload and I'm sure we'll give our other 1 cent.

From the pump to the deverter valve where it branches off one to the resevoir and the other to the control valve , off the control valve one the one spool i have 2 hoses coming off both going to the cylinder. the other spool vavle is blanked off as this was going to be the first step in building this project. At the end of the conrol valve it returns to the reservoir. Thanks Dave
