Tropical Storm Henri Advisory Number 22
NWS National Hurricane Center Miami FL AL082021
500 AM EDT Sat Aug 21 2021

...HENRI EXPECTED TO STRENGTHEN INTO A HURRICANE AS IT MOVES
NORTH-NORTHEASTWARD TODAY...
...A DANGEROUS STORM SURGE, HURRICANE CONDITIONS, AND
FLOODING RAINFALL EXPECTED IN PORTIONS OF THE NORTHEAST UNITED
STATES BEGINNING LATE TONIGHT OR EARLY SUNDAY...

Key Messages:

1. Dangerous storm surge inundation is expected to begin late
tonight or Sunday in portions of Long Island, Connecticut,
Rhode Island, and southeastern Massachusetts, where a Storm Surge
Warning has been issued. Dangerous storm surge is possible
beginning late tonight or Sunday in western portions of Long
Island and Connecticut in the Storm Surge Watch area. Residents in
these areas should follow any advice given by local officials.

2. Hurricane conditions are expected to begin late tonight or
Sunday in portions of Long Island and Connecticut, where a
Hurricane Warning has been issued. Hurricane conditions are
possible late tonight or Sunday across portions of Rhode Island.

3. Heavy rainfall may lead to considerable flash, urban, and small
stream flooding, along with the potential for widespread minor and
isolated moderate river flooding, over portions of Long Island, New
England, southeast New York and northern New Jersey.

4. Swells from Henri will continue to affect much of the east coast
of the U.S. through the weekend. These swells could cause
life-threatening surf and rip currents.

Fingers cross Henri doesn't turn out to be like Irene we had couple years or so back.

Looks like Long Island and CT Coast line New Haven area is where it lands now - then maybe it will head east our way or north who knows - but Thomas Lebanon may be far enough north not to see too much!

Test ran the genny this am so were ready!

We're 100 or so miles north of Thomas, so it looks like most of it will miss us entirely, though one projected path shows it going right over us though most show it making a sharp turn to the east somewhere in southern N.H./Vt.

Yesterday's forecast had the eye going right over us, but today it's moved to the west. I spend some time today putting all the loose objects in the house, screwing shut the barn doors and checking gas on the chainsaw. Also filled the freezer with tubs of water and filled some 5 gallon buckets with water in case we lose power. The house is about 15' above sea level so we should be above the storm surge.

I lived in Coastal Florida for too many years to get involved with all the panic and hysteria. The storm will come, the rain will fall, the water will rise and the wind will blow. It gets you or it misses you then it goes away. If you are not prepared already it is too late now

Some storms can be serious, and no one should take them lightly.
But with big tech and corporate media constantly sending alerts for adverse weather sponsored by people who sell bottled water, generators and plywood, it’s so obvious it’s overblown because it’s very profitable.
FEAR is profitable

Isn't the NE coast rocky? I would think colder water and a few cliffs would reduce a hurricane to wind and rain. One of the standing jokes here on the West Coast is, "If your grandmother can drive 60 mph through a 60 mph southwester without blinking, you know you are from the Oregon Coast." It goes with designing your kids' Halloween costumes to fit over rain gear.

I can see a hurricane being a problem in the SE, where rain just sits there because it's so flat, and you have to go miles inland to escape the storm surge.

Ignorance can be fatal.
No fear or ignorance here.
I was in the alleged path of the tropical storm.
Was supposed to rain, flash floods and high winds today.
Nothing.
Theres too much over-hype of weather catastrophe

We have so many "storm of the century" warnings which don't amount to a p-hole in the snow that it's easy to become complacent. As somebody already pointed out, our coastline and terrain tends to knock them back pretty quickly, often with a little help from that Canadian air from our neighbors to the north.

IMO...the people that will have the biggest problem will be those that did not heed the warnings and get prepared...there was plenty of time...

One troubling issue here in Paradise is that it's been raining for a month now. 16 inches in July, and more than 6 so far here in Aug. The ground is saturated.

If it rains, and the winds come, there are going to be many trees down. Big ones.

I set up the generator yesterday. Put a new tank on the grill and fueled up the Coleman stove ;-)

With these hills all around, if the water comes fast, The creeks gonna rise!

I'm about 150 miles past the landfall point, but only 5 miles from the coast, yeah, predicted to get 2 inches of tropical rain and 30mph winds with gusts of 40mph.

No panic, but I did climb up 25 feet on a ladder yesterday to cover an old barn window that had fallen out with acrylic sheet and mow the lawn which was a week overdue.

I don't expect to lose power, but I picked up 20 gals of gas for the 2K and 5K gennys. My winter fuel stocks have been depleted, I don't usually top them off again until late fall. The 5K is due for a test anyway, I may just run it for awhile even if I don't lose power.

My Yanmar LX is 7 miles away at my Mom's house, a minor inconvenience for me but my Mom is happy her field is getting mowed and brush piles are now burned. This storm wasn't on my radar when I drove it over there a week ago.

You must be in the southern part of the state, the NEK (as well as northern N.H.) is still considered to be moderate drought as of late July. We didn't get anywhere near as much rain here as southern New England.

Agree on the flooding...central Vt. really took it in the hurricane that hit in 2010? 11? Most of the major highways into Rutland were washed out.

kinda like crying wolf.....
Yep
and the the problem with that is, they keep crying wolf until nobody pays attention, then the “big one” hits and nob paid attention

About this time last summer we had a season full of warnings, watches, blah blah about the weather. Then in one day we had a super red cell thunderstorm mover through with little warning and did extensive flood damage. We got 5-6” of rain overnight. Local river flooded extensively. I lost a lot of hay in that storm.
Im convinced weather forecasters are ok for 1-3 days of predictions, but years into the future? That’s a joke.
