Wishing all the best to you that suffered the 'eye' of Michael. I'm sure most of you that were close and affected have more important matters to tend to vs. posting here, but please do post when you get a chance and let us know you are okay and how you are making do.

Its moving fast, already left NC. I am just on the west side of the rain, will barely get any, and don't need any.

Lots of trees and power lines down around Tallahassee. My generator has been running since 3 yesterday. We didn't have any house damage but others weren't as fortunate.

Good to hear, JD! I remember you said you should have evacuated. That has to be a tough decision! Hope we never to have to make that one.

My wife text me yesterday that Duke Energy contacted her that our power was out. That was at 11:23 am. Turned on the generator once I got home last night and she's still running. Got a feeling that it's going to be several days. Certainly not anywhere as bad as it could have been. The location I live in is prone to power outages. Hope everyone stays safe.

We got a little damage. The worse of it is a tree on our building. Our power was out for a little while. Had to run the generator for a couple hours before it came back on. I wasn’t gonna hook it up but the kids needed a bath. Had 2 trees on fence as well.

The death toll is up to 13 as of this time/post...but I'm afraid it could get a lot worse as there is reported to be a tremendous number people still unaccounted for...

I heard one of the harder hit counties in FL only had 40% compliance with the mandatory evacuation notice. I will be surprised if the death toll doesn't continue to climb.

I just got power back a little while ago. After Hermine we were in the final few hundred to get power and this time we are in the front end for a change. 83% of our county is still out.

That storm was a nasty one. The pictures are horrific and I bet it was downright terrifying being in it.

Just got power back after 29 hours. Worse than Florence.:eek:

The eye of the storm went over us on Thursday and not a big deal. The front of the eye had some wind and rain but nothing big. We had on the TV which uses OTA and with bad winds the signal is breaks up. Not too bad with Michael and pretty much useless for Flo.

However, there has to be a however, I noticed watching the radar all day that the storm was rebuilding a band on the back side of the eye. That made me nervous....

The TV weather dude is pretty good and he said that a model was showing 60-70 mph winds in the back edge of the storm.:shocked::shocked: The model was correct.:thumbdown::thumbdown:

The back band only lasted 30 minutes or so but we lost power. :( After the storm was gone, we check the outage map and I went out to take a look. No trees down east or north or us but I found ONE old tree had fallen on a line 4-5 miles west of us. That one itty, bitty break had taken out power for hundreds of homes. I could have picked up the logs off the lines and the lines were not broken just pulled down from the poles which is a good thing. We checked that location a couple of times today and no power crews out there. :(:(:(

The wifey was in town this evening, which did not loose power, and noticed a stream power trucks heading west! Woo HOO! Figured they were heading towards the power line and they were. A few hours later we had power back! Happy dance time.:laughing::laughing:

Lots of outages in our area. Michael took the powers that be by surprised me thinks. No pre positioning of power crews. With what Flo did east and south of us and then what Michael did to FLA and GA, the power crews have to be stretched pretty thin. :(:(:(

We had no damage when I left the house yesterday to see what was happening. However, there is that word again, when I got home I noticed some root balls in the air. :confused3::shocked::eek: While I was gone there must have been another wind gust that took down three trees. Thankfully well away from the house. The wifey heard the trees fall even though they are almost 1,000 feet away from the house. Easy firewood I suppose and the trees went left and right of my deer stand.:D:D:D

Later,
Dan

This storm was different. They usually have more severe wind and rain on the east side. Radar images indicated this storm had stronger wind on it's West.

We were on the East side and didn't get a lot of rain. The low areas in my field have already dried up. We were needing the rain.

Just heard from the Gulf county sheriff. They went to my FIL's trailer and he is there. He is ok, but trailer suffered some damage. He told us we should be able to get in that area Monday. We will be heading out tomorrow.

Great news ! Have a safe trip . Know you will have EmComm set up, and not just relying on cells.

I'd say buy him a lottery ticket, but obviously he's used up probably 2 life-times of luck..... the pictures I saw of Mexico Beach had most places wiped flat. Michael almost made Cat 5; not much in the way of regular construction can withstand a storm like that.

That is great news! We have been worried about him.

I bet developers are ready to pounce on the prime water front property. I still think the same thing about Puerto Rico and why they didn't help the people there.

Why "they" didn't help people? You mean why didn't the .gov show up and save everyone and rebuild their homes? Probably because that isn't/shouldn't be their job. The gov told a lot of folks to evacuate, if they didn't why should we be rushing to wait on them hand and foot? That is a personal decision, you have to be responsible for your decisions.

Well...
My power returned about 5:30 on Saturday afternoon...
My line was out 54 hours...
Thankfully the generator performed flawlessly...
Just burned a lot of gas...
Talked to a friend of mine who is a Duke Energy engineer...
As of Saturday morning over 30 poles were out of service in my area...
He said it was a mess...
Hope everyone else gets their power up as soon as possible and stay safe...
