Huge haystacks in the 1950's

That's interesting. I always wondered how they got those hay stacks that high. Pretty rare footage. They were probably the only family with an Iphone back then.

I am given the privilege of using 3 huge bank barns in return for making hay from the landowners property. They are loose hay barns constructed in the mid-late 1800s. Enormous structures with ridge pole mounted crane system for unloading loose hay. Sad part is I cant really utilize much of these barns except some equipment storage. They work for small bales that I used to make by the tens of thousands. Now with large bales, not much use.

But lots of people became employed by the factories that built those balers :thumbsup:

Interesting video. I've been around oats grown for grain/hay all my life but I've never seen oats as tall as those in the beginning of this video. Oats were considerably taller than the rear tires of those J I Case tractors.

Just don't grow em like that anymore.

Though I chose a path of math and science through engineering, I grew up on a tobacco farm and I have that gene in my system. There's just something about a field of ripe grain, whatever it is, being harvested and to make it more intriguing is when the harvest is so large it takes multiple mowers, combines or harvesters running to keep up. Growing up in the southeast, we don't have large fields like the midwest and western states so the mammoth equipment the farmers use out there has always been mystical for me.
