I'd like to take a few minutes to talk about customer service from Howse and KK.

We all know these two brands are the light/medium duty "economy" brands... but I've got to say this.

So far.. every time I've called Howse to ask a question about my new 10' mower they have come thru with flying colors.. including emailing me requested date.. etc.

Same for KK. They have even express shipped small parts to me that were missing when i bought the unit ( snap retainer ring on the gearbox shaft ).. of course at no charge, and with a written appology.

I certaintly didn't expect that 'level' of customer service from an economy brand.

Just felt that needed saying..

Soundguy,

I have had similar experience with King Kutter. My father-in-law even had a wheel break on his RFM and wasn't sure if he it something or if it was a manufacture's defect and he said as much when he called them. The unit was only a year or two old when this happened. King Kutter shipped him the replacement parts free of charge.

Congratulations on your Ford tractor and Howse 10 ft, nice outfit. We sold the Howse brand for many years and they are a pretty good cutter for the money invested. However, that being said, when a driveline part fails or connectors between the gearboxes, It will be interesting to see, if they still come thru on service on a major issue. The drivelines are unique to Howse and not many dealers stock parts for them or understand these cutters. If you ever run into a problem? We will try to help you with spare parts, as we still have quite a lot of Howse parts inventory.--Ken Sweet

I'll deffinately keep that in mind.

And believe me.. I know I bought a mower that was about half the price of the competition.. and all that entails.

Hopefully I've already cut up the heavy stuff over the last 2 years with the 5' KK and now the 10' howse just needs to do height control on the weeds and grass.

Should last a long time that way..

I've had the same experience from King Kutter. I called them a couple times and seemed to immediately get someone who knew what he was talking about, answered my questions in plain English (albeit with a strong Southern accent) and even gave me a couple suggestions that proved helpful beyond what I'd asked.

That is good to know. I have several KK implements now, but I bought 'em because they came "pre-rusted", so I don't have to feel bad leaving them outdoors. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Sound Guy,
I have the Howse 10 ft cutter and I know of others who have them. I looked at some of the more expensive cutters on the market and decided to go with Howse. I was having a hard time convincing myself to spend that kind of money (about double) to cut some saplings and grass and weeds. I am pleased with it and the company so far. Ken may be right about the drive line but so far not peep from it. I have a cousin who stop using his "bat wing" 15 ft and uses his 10 ft Howse only!

Soundguy - I have been using a Howse 6' for 4+ years. Don't know about customer service since I have not needed it. The cutter has been great and I have not babied it, cutting some pretty heavy brush and running over deadfall and chunks of wood that floated out of the creek. Howse and KK both sometimes get bashed on these forums, but I could not be more pleased.

When the howse does go down, you will be the most frustrated person in your county while trying to get it going again--I had a fellow that drove 6 hours to get a rubber torque pad that goes between the gearboxes. He thought I was a dealer and tried to unload on me, with a of of rantting and raving and when he finished, I agreed with all that he said and told him that all the things he was fussing about, are the exact reasons, we dont sell them anymore--Ken Sweet

I've had good experience with Howse. I needed a chain guard for my cutter. I called them up, told them what I needed, gave them my credit card number, and the chain guard showed up at my doorstep via UPS five days later, cheaper than any dealer could get it for me. The entire experience was painless. The owner's manuals of all my implements have exploded parts diagrams with numbers so when I do need parts, I just call them and they ship them to me.

Chris,
Yeah, I think the "pre-rusted" part is what gave KK the edge when I was shopping for a tiller and landscape rake. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif No problem with the implements at all. Just make sure your tetanus shot is up to date.

When you need a KK part that is out of warranty can you get them shipped directly to you from the factory?

I normally get KK parts from TSC. But my pet peeve is I have to go to TSC to pick them up after making a special order. TSC won't ship them to my door. I wouldn't mind if they were just down the road but that is not the case.

I need to order a replacement spindle assembly tomorrow.
