I plow a few of my neighbors as a favor to them. One is almost 1/4 mile long but she does not have the money to have it plowed. She is a very nice lady so I do not mind. This year, I welded an attachment plate onto a used V-Plow. Cut my plow time easily by a half. In deep snows (>12") and ice on the driveway, the regular angle plow who throw my tractor to the side some when plowing up her steep driveway. This is even with studded chains. So I would have to keep turning the tractor to the side and dump the snow, back up and plow another 50' or so and do the same thing. Now, with the V-plow, I was able to run right up the center of the driveway even with 16- 18" of snow. When I get to the top, I reconfigure the plow to be a reverse V snow pusher and clean out her parking area, then reconfigure it to a regular angle plow and push back the two sides of the driveway, then push plow to clean up the end/road. I am extremely pleased with the setup. That plow was the main driving force for adding the extra hydraulic circuits. That and I also never have to undo the hydraulics for the Quick Attach "pins" - they are now permanently hard plumbed to the lever under the joystick.

Yup....we're in the cross-hairs of the same storm too......I've got to go out tomorrow and try to push the piles back some.......I've got no place left to push the snow as I have mounds over 6' tall in some places and the drive is starting to feel pretty narrow....haha.

The first year I plowed using the PT without chains I found I was crabbing to much......once I installed chains on the rear tires I can push all but the heaviest of snows in a straight line. Most I've done at one time is 14" of a dry snow........if it's a heavy wet snow I don't let it get over 8" unless I really want to struggle......Jack

Yeah, the PT does crab on a side slope of even the slightest angle in snow. And with the plow at full tilt if the snow is wet it will push it sideways, too.

Yea 66 , the good old days, I never had bathroom or running water growing up either, but we did have a pot to pee in. Lol! I made it ok, and a lot tougher than my 16 year old son that feel like he's being mistreated if he's asked to take the trash out! Things have changed a lot but I'm still the same kid that was raised without anything, if I lost everything I'd survive, just like the song! Lol

Ice storm yesterday....just to add to the fun. The only dog we have that can still walk through the snow is the wolfhound.......all the other ones just follow behind him after he "plows" a path!

Freezing rain yesterday morning. Truck door frozen shut, i couldn't pull it open. The weird thing is i thought when i looked at the outside temp before going out that it was something like 42F. Roads had some black ice too.

I retired last year so now I can watch the weather from my warm house, and can move snow in daylight after the storm. Ii worked outside year round my whole life and winter never really bothered me--- summer heat was worse.

That said, I do have a lot of projects that can only be done in summer or fall, but I don't rush anymore.

yep....ice just absolutely kills me........the drives too long to economically do anything about it. Getting some rain today so I'm hoping that it washes some of the ice away........and leaves some bare gravel spots that I can aim for in between sliding on the icy portions to regain some traction.

I have to keep reminding the dogs when we're out walking that they have four paws with nails and I don't!

It has been a very tough winter here this year. It is a lot like the winters I remember as a kid, but I am old feller now and I don't get near the enjoyment going outside in the snow at this age. It seems like every day I am on the tractor moving snow, running out of places to stack it, in fact, have had to start moving piles, sure wishing I had a cab tractor this year. Even wife is starting to feel sorry for me and said maybe I need a cab before next winter, so fingers crossed maybe a new tractor in 2014. Every day going out in the morning and evening taking care of the horses and chickens just plain SUCKS. And the utility bills have been through the roof because of heat lamps and tank heaters, just hope it warms up soon. Saying March will be colder than normal................

After years of working on, maintaining and purchasing snow equipment I finally get to go out an play in the snow on my own time. Wife, friends and neighbors think I am nuts out playing with the plow and snow blower. I hung up my skis a long time ago and have a hard time walking any distance, however, I can plant my butt on the tractor and enjoy some time outdoors. Get out all my old ski clothes go out and have a ball with my equipment, like a kid in a snow filled sand box.:cool2: I actually feel useful after plowing and blowing all the snow from my property and helping out the neighbors.

Sun is out here and when the road dries out a bit later today I think I'll get the bike out and ride up to the boat launch and see how high the river is. We've had a fair amount of rain that melted off all our recent snowfall so flowing water is a bit high.
