I'm jealous of everyone with warm garages. Mine is detached and 50x30 with 2 floors and about 10' ceilings on the first floor. Its not insulated, but I did put in some electric shop heaters and can get it tolerable in the small area I'm working that way. It tends to lag behind the outside temperature by about a day, so if it's 30 outside and then 50 the next day the garage will still be 30 and vice versa. I eventually want to insulate and heat it, but given the size I'm hesitant because of the cost.

I keep mine about 35* just to keep the water from freezing when I,m not working out there. When I'm working in the garage, I turn the t.stat up to about 68-70*. I have central a/c & heat in the shop so, I'm cool in the summer & warm in the winter:thumbsup: garage is 30x40 insulated

I live in MI and installed 2" styrafoam under concrete floor slab and down 2' inside of footer. Walls are insulated R11 fiberglass and ceilling 6" fiberglass. Door has 1" foiled celotex. I have a simple in wall between studs gas heater that uses outside air heated by exhaust out for combustion. Does not take long to heat but once that cement is room temp (after 6 hours) you can open bay doors and change air out with vehicle close up and rebound room air pretty quick. Slab is comfy in worst of weather but I always keep thermostat at 40 to keep from freezing chemicals, paint etc. Parts cleaner is not bad to work in probably the last (30 gallon) to warm up.

I am thinking of building an ICF garage/shop (R-22) and utilize insulated garage doors.

My question is what is a good ELECTRIC heater that can be mounted at ceiling level so that it can keep the garage at a nice 50F during winter?

Plenty out there, the type and size depends on the size of the garage. I use a Dimplex 4000 Watt heater (240V), I really need one per bay, but have large bays and no insulation, so its likely you could get away with less or just a single larger heater unit.

If it's staying around 45 degrees you did a good job of insulating it. I have a 3 1/2 car attached garage (insulated) and mine is like B P Flick. About 10 degrees above ambient.

Thanks! Forgot to add, it's a detached garage. And, how could I forget a picture....
