Seriously, it sounds like I am worrying needlessly. Thanks all for reassuring me it's not really any big deal to have it overlap the trailer.

A few years ago my brother in law would have hauled it home on his VW bug. He had a roof rack and he hauled many things up there. One time he even hauled 5 RR ties in one trip. He has more nerve than I do. Ed

I often carried a 16ft canoe on a bug!

As suggested just stick one end up close to the hitch and leave the other end hanging off the rear of the trailer. Strap it down good in at least two areas, put a orange flag on the back end of the pipe and drive it home. I hauled a 36" plastic sluice pipe 100 miles to my woods in the **** state of NY with no problems. Even went through a couple of radar traps. Of course this action might cause cancer in California.

About a year ago I bought a 20' long piece of dual wall pipe at the local farm store. I knew I only needed about 8' so I brought a sawzall to cut the thing in half. Brought a tape measure and extension cord also. These two idiots then try to load the thing in my truck, which has a 6 and a half foot bed. They then started bitching about how I didn't have a way to get it home. I said no I wanted to cut it in half, which I had already told them before they tired the magic trick of putting something 20' long in a short bed truck. They looked at me like I was nuts. I then asked if they had an outlet outside. They then looked at me like they didn't know what electricity was. Finally somebody showed up that knew where an outlet was inside and I was good to go.

Watched my neighbor haul in several 18" x 20' culvert tied to the top of her Hyundai subcompact a few years ago, hung over about two feet beyond the bumper front and back.

Many years ago I was building a chain link fence to keep the good doggie in. The top rail at the local building center came in 21' lengths and I drove a Chevette. I talked my brother to help me with his pickup and my hacksaw to cut them in half to easier fit the truck. When cutting them, the OC in my brother kicked in and he produced a tape measure and proceeded to ensure each length was cut EXACTLY in half. I ended up with a splice about 8" from the end of the fence. Random cut would have surely left with a long enough piece to finish without the extra splice at the end.
