I drop start my Stihls. Friend of mine doesn't have the arm strength and grip to do that so he sets his on the ground as the Stihl manual says to do.

I have always used the "on the ground" method with my 35 year old Stihl.
I just turned 77, so am going to revise the method.
I do not use any wood for heat.
Coming soon: 40V or 80V saw by "Greenworks"
Stihl will be retained,..... in semi retirement.
