I've got about 12 acres of field that is all furrows from the last crop that was planted, probably 20 years ago.

I recently began plowing up the ground and followed that by running a disc over, and over and over. The disc has cut and chopped up the earth, but I still have high and low spots that I want to level out.

What can I drag over this to pull the dirt from the high spots into the lows? I've heard of people using old fences, but I don't think that would weigh enough.
I thought about filling an old 6" plumbing pipe with quick-crete and dragging that.

Any suggestions? As always, trying not to spend too much money!

Thanks

Kevin

Try pulling that 6" pipe full of concrete BEHIND the disc. That's the way it was done for ages.

Like farm said pull the pipe behind the disk and also run at an angle. After you go at one angle turn around and go at the opposite angle.

I had reasonable success with a 6' box blade on a large tractor. I went with the furrows. This allowed the high to be scraped off and fill in the low on each side. Didn't take too long to get it pretty nice.

A few wood skids with some weight on them behind the disc will also do the job. Cheap to.

Are you talking about shipping palletts? I know where I can get all of those I want for Free! I guess for weight I could always put heavy things on top.

Farmers have been dragging everything but the kitchen sink for a long time to smooth the field. Bed springs, I-beams, jailhouse doors, harrows, discs, logs, railroad track sections, etc. Anytime you drag something big and flat you are bound to see results.

JAILHOUSE DOORS? I believe I've tried the OUTHOUSE door, but not the jailhouse model.

That could be what I've been missing in life!

Yep, just some old 40x40 or whatever pallets. Good ones are oak and will hold up. I've used a couple behind my ATV to smooth out some of the clay around the house after we dug. Maybe it's the multible openings but they work good. Couple of the guys around here have these bit 4" pipe things that they pull, another has some tires bolted together with some heavy weight on them. Heck my tractor won't even pull those, they have a 75hp+ to get some speed going which is something I believe that helps.

When the city hall where I work was rebuilt they had these super heavy jail doors to get rid of. They aren't bars but just super stout oversized doors. My boss took one home and drags his roads and fields with it. I would rather just use the box blade or an I-beam or both together.

Semi tires work well, if you get enough you can make them into a pyramid shape and chain them all together. They will really move some dirt.
