Trying to remove this cap from an unidentified cylinder on an old log splitter.
Can anyone tell me how. Seems to have two slits in it at 10 oclock and 6 oclock. Thanks for any help

Spanner wrench in the slots.

It could unscrew or it could have an internal snap ring. Use a block of wood and hammer to try to drive the cap inward. If it does move inward, you'll immediately see the snap ring around the outside edge of the cap (which will sit in a groove of the "barrel"). If it does not move inward, then it likely unscrews.

Bingo, Unfortunately I had to figure this out for myself. I just read your suggestion, which is right on.
