How to remove and park 3ph auger?

Well out of all the set ups I've seen, yours was the most appealing. No straps or chains or anything just a simple design.. so I did mine just like it. http://s255.photobucket.com/user/hunt4570/media/South Carolina/IMG_2024_zpsccdui7mw.jpg.html http://s255.photobucket.com/user/hunt4570/media/South Carolina/IMG_2025_zpskxnxi7vu.jpg.html The uprights are 8' posts in the ground 3 feet.. makes the rig about 3-6" short and the boom end sits on the ground. Like I said I will probably eventually move it to a different location and I'll make it taller, for now I'll get a cement block to keep the boom off the ground. It unhooked very easily, if it hooks up as nicely it will be great!

How stable is your setup? Is it safe if someone/something bumped it or is it dangling precariously? I like the setup and am interested in building one myself but am curious how safe it is.

I'm thinking you would have to ram it pretty hard to dislodge anything. With those little saddles on top of the uprights its not going anywhere..

Not sure how it could be any safer other than putting a fence around it. :confused3: As long as you use some decent lumber, it CAN'T fall. When you say bumped into it, are you talking a Person, or a tractor or what? Anything can be knocked down if you want. It is not going to fall on it's own or by an incidental bump walking by.

I have had mine like this for 10 years, zero issues. I suppose that sometime down the road the posts may need to be changed out, but most likely I will be long dead. We have many wood fence posts that have been in the ground for more than 70 years.

Ok, while I was out by the PHD hanging on the rack a bit ago, I shook the botswanna out of it to see if I could get it to move.. wasn't budging a bit! I think VERY stable! Kids could use it as a jungle gym..

I wasn't asking about the lumber failing, they're 4x4's and can handle the weight just fine. I was curious as to how well the post hole digger balanced on the cross beam is all. I was trying to see if the post hole digger could easily fall by being bumped or pulled off. Sorry to confuse you.

I understood what you were asking. Looking at the picture, how could it come off of the cross beam??? Were-are you thinking that it could actually slip off of the beam?

Forget it. Have a nice day.

Hunt4570, good luck with your new setup, looks great.

Building the whole thing on a 4 x 4 pallet makes the most sense to me.
Can store it anywhere I want, with my 3pt forks or my FEL forks.

Came across this thread the other day and show what I created a few weeks ago.

What I like is if I need to move to PHD I can chain up to the loop at the top and move the whole thing elsewhere.

So I just bought a 3ph post hole digger/auger from TSC. Haven't messed with it as of yet.. tomorrow probably. So once I get it on there, how do I go about taking it off and parking it while making it reasonably easy to re hook up? Brushhogs, discs ect just sit there till next time.. this I dont believe will stay upright till next use. do you guys build some sort of rack to set it on , or just what do you do? Dig a hole and leave the auger partially in the ground to stabilize it? Seems that would be detrimental to the well being of the auger. So before I go out and play with it tomorrow... give me a game plan please.:D
Had a stand made for mine.
