Have not had to do mine. Seems that once the hood is out of the way, there is only a few bolts holding it on, and of course the gas line. Do you have a battery box or hydraulics that might block things?
Mine is a'41 A.

I think he's got a JD 'A'.. not a farmall 'A'
Powertroll is a JD version of a precursor to the standard 3pt hitch we have today... etc...\
To the fellow with the 'A'.. I have a 'B'.. looks like it would come out as follows:
As for removing it.. once sheet metal is gone, and bands / bolts are loose / gas line gone.. should be piece of cake.
Might try a tank sealer.. like por15.. or even an epoxy rated for gas tank repair ( they have both gas tank repair sticks, and battery repair stickes..etc.. ).. try it.. you might get lucky.

I used to have a JD M and the tank leaked. After finding out a new tank was $60, I took it to a machine shop where the guy cut out the leaky tube in the bottom and welded in a new one. Cost was $10!
Worked great for me and the new owner years later.
