If it's one that I remember there's three gauges.
Barometric pressure
Humidity
Temperature

BoylermanCT - that's the same thing I do. I don't have a brother, but I have about ten small towns to my SW that I check. About 95% of all my weather comes from the SW.

A couple years ago I had a conversation with a guy that had retired from one of the Federal forecasting agencies. He said there was one guy in the office that had the best ability to read all the data that they received and make sense of it. Most of what he came up with is what we see in the weather forecasts. With all the money and science that has gone into predicting the weather, it's still a guess by the experts in what it means, and the vast majority of them really don't have a clue what is going to happen.

This does not work always due jet stream moving and winds coming from different direction. But pay attention to where you weather is coming from. I can watch the Ohio valley and know most of the time my weather will be like there is. By that I mean if raining then two days later we have rain, it is drops 10 degrees ours will drop 10 degrees. Of course does not work with say hurricanes, but the majority of the time it works rather well.

I lived in Florida for 7 years, and whenever it got cloudy, it WILL rain, extremely heavy for at most 15 minutes!.. else, it will not rain.. no instruments needed!..

I live on a lakeside.

When the waves go from left to right =good weather'.
If they go the other way (right to left) batten down the hatches,
Never fail's!
Now if I could only figure out a bug system.
OK, one works, 3 days of 80/90 deg's and bye bye to the black flies.
As to the skitters all I know is only the females bite but so far I can't determine their sex until they draw blood.
OK. if I am really determined to do outside work I make a 'smudge pot' (AKA smoke) and blow it where I am to work.

You all know the saying, the forecaster doesn't know his azz from his elbow hence he rolls up his sleeves when he goes for a dump!

a fan will keep the bugs away, they can't fly well in wind..

It is easy to predict the weather. If you are stuck inside and have to work, wife wants you to follow her around shopping, etc, it will be sunny/pleasant outside. Really nice. If you have a day off to enjoy life, it will be windy/rainy ..... not so nice.
