How to make governor more effective?

I'm running a PTO generator on my YM1510D for the coming himacane, but the governor does a lousy job of maintaining speed control when loading and unloading. Is there any way to make it more effective?

That was my question on my 3110. You could hardly tell a difference when the governor kicks in .I had a gas burner b-4 my yanmar diesel & you could tell the difference when governor kicked in. I was told by a diesel mechanic that governors on diesels don't operate that way.So, I left it at that & hadn't asked anyone else. Good luck !! I don't mean good luck it in a bad way .

I'm confused.

"Tell a difference" in what? Engine RPM?

If that's it, isn't that a very good thing? A governor should hold the engine at a constant RPM as the generator loads and unloads - or, at least my impression was that's the primary function of a governor.

How big is your generator?

You've got a little less than 15 HP available at your PTO. A HP is about 750 W. So with perfect efficiency you've got about 10 to 11 KW available. But you're not going to get 100% efficiency.

If you're drawing much over 5 to 7 KW from the plant, I'd suggest that the tractor is underpowered for the load and no governor can or will keep the RPM up under those conditions.

The difference I'am talking about is mostly in the sound of the engine reving when the governor kicks in.Like in the different sound in a small gasoline engine generator .
