This may or may not be popular but a 22 will solve the problem if they come up when you feed them.

Burmese Python. You will end your turtle problem quickly. As you have no other pythons in your pond you will then only have to deal with one alpha predator vice the many turtles your dealing with now. Additionally the python is much easier to find than them turtles.

It's a constant battle...man wants something while nature likes to eat whatever is in front of it.
If you have 3 turtles, you have more, just haven't seen them yet.
If they are coming to you, you can bait a hook with something tasty and hook them one by one and pull them to the bank and dispatch them.
If you are a good shot and the surrounds permit, you can shoot with a 22.
If surrounds preclude a rifle, a 20 gauge shotgun and something like number 4 shot will do the trick from a reasonably close range.
This is not an endangered species, just unwanted in your immediate area, so removal should not be a problem and likely save some of your foul.

Yes, the 22 may have to be the final solution. Trying a trap now to catch and release. Surprisingly enough the sunnies in the pond don't seem to mind him and even swim around him when I feed him, trying to get him near the trap. Still trying. Thanks for your input.

I live in upstate NY, not exactly Python climate, lol. Never thought of a python but then I would still have a predator to deal with. Catch 22 situation. I think the answer, if all else fails, is a 22 mm. Still this big old turtle doesn't bother the triploid carp I keep in my pond for algae control; of course the carp are big, 36" long. The turtle doesn't seem to prey on them.

Hi Duber, My name is Liz. I live in Ulster Co. near the Hudson River. Saw your comment. I have a pond with a least 3 snappers I very much want to get rid of as I have baby goslings that have just hatched on the bank. Can you help me with this problem. I have a large turtle trap but not having much luck with it. Would really like to get rid of them. They will come to me when I feed them. Hope to talk to you, Liz

The turtles will come to you when you feed them? If so lure them onto the shore and drop a box (wood, or anything but cardboard) over them. Hold it down and slide a piece of plywood under it and tack the box down onto the plywood, or tie it down- eye screws ect. Then just carry it to your vehicle and relocate them a good distance away. If they are not too big- you can carry them by holding the shell behind the back legs- out of reach of their claws.

Hi, thanks for your input. Yes the big adult snapper will come when I toss meat, but very cautious about coming too far out of the water and darts back in if I should move, or would do so if anyone attempted to pop a box over him. I have caught a few smaller s. turtles by luring them close and up on the bank with food and then having a second person netting them, but it takes 2 people, & its got to be done fast. This one is too large and skittish for that. I've seen them carried by the tail but I would not attempt this. (I like my fingers.) Some years I have been lucky and spotted them on the lawn laying eggs (in June) which gives me the advantage. Then I and my son get between it and the water, throw a steel or wire basket over the turtle, do the plywood thing underneath, and then transport it.

Put the trap in water near the bank where there is room for them to get their nose out of the water to breath. a couple of chopped fish in the trap will have them crawling up the ramp and dropping in. If you put a ad in your local minnow sales shop I am sure you will have some professional turtle trappers come forth.
