My trouble is that when I put the throttle at 2400 rpms, as I'm going along it creeps down to 1600 rpms or less. If I push the throttle back up to 2400, it'll go up but will not stay there. Must be some adjustment in the throttle handle somewhere that would allow me to tighten it up so that it will hold in the original position.

My second problem is that if I push the throttle all the way up, it causes the engine to over-rev. Again, there must be some way of adjusting that so that the engine will not over-rev. I do not see a dead stop.

I give my young grandson tractor rides occasionally, and he tends to push the throttle up quickly to go faster, instead of inching it up. This causes it to redline.

There are two black, plastic coverings under the steering wheel that extend down to the platform. Take them off. There are 2 bolts in the middle, plus some screws inside the engine compartment. Then you can see the pivot point of the throttle. Tighten it, using some Loctite, and it will stay put.

Like he said. Remove the screws from the dash to remove the instrument cluster and get to the screw. I also removed the spring from the throttle linkage near the fuel pump. This takes away some of the pull to constantly close down the throttle. Removing the spring sounds like a bad idea, but I noticed no real difference in how the throttle moves and the linkage tighted a little. The OPs problem is a common issue.

If memory serves me correctly, I believe there are set screws by the throttle linkage and fuel pump. I know it is there for the idle and have adjusted it, but I think there is also one for the top end.

Willie, MikePA and radman1 have answered your questions about the throttle lever adjustment, but I'd like to address your question about over-revving with the throttle. I think you should never make an adjustment to your tractor based on what a child might do while you are giving a joyride. That whole scenario seems counterintuitive to me. Would you do the same if you were riding him in your car? The operation of your tractor always has to rely on an operator with full knowledge of what he/she is doing. A tractor cannot be made childproof.:( I would tell a child to not touch something they could cause damage to or hurt themself. If they can't obey, then you should stop the ride immediately. That's just good sound adult judgement.:)

Your tractor's maximum rpm is set by the governor. It has a single setting that is not really designed to be adjustable. If you were to adjust it, you would find your tractor would not operate properly under full-load conditions. Since it is very unlikely that it is not set at the recommended point, I'd suggest just leaving it as it is.

RPM can be set, if memory serves me correctly, follow cables from injector puimp towards firewall, throttle cable has an adjustment sleeve to make minor changes. ( basicly shortens/lengthens cable.)

Thanks, guys, for all the suggestions.

I found an easier way to fix it. Remove the 2 screws that hold the instrument panel in place. Remove the instrument panel which exposes the throttle. It takes a 17 mm wrench, just a little turn on the center portion tightened it right up. And, down next to the fuel injection pump where the cable is fastened, there is also another hole next to it that I could get a 1/4 inch bolt into, and I made a dead stop for the throttle. It works great! We'll see how long it lasts.

If you didn't use Loctite or a lock nut, it will loosen again. Been there, done that.

After reading this great thread its easy.....remove two screws holding dash in, look inside and find nut on restrained bolt and tighten with 17mm socket. Piece of Cake.

Hi. I have a TC45D with a stuck throttle at 2400 RPM - should I assume that the adjustment needed would be a similar process?
