How safe are first generation airbags?

I gave up when my California dealer where I bought it new said time and material with no limit.

Contacted BMW and that got me blacklisted because anything but a perfect review makes the customer the bad guy.

It took almost 2 years for the recall repair airbag to be available…

Along the lines of certain sights you can't unsee, certain sounds you can't unhear... My first hand experience with an airbag in the face creates a smell you can't unsmell.
