How OLD is your Weedeater?

Pretty sure mine came over on the Mayflower. I am not sure how old exactly mine is.... I think it was either late 70's or early 80's so I think it is somewhere around 25 yrs old. It is a big toro... you know , with the sawblade attachments, etc. It still runs, however a few yrs back my wife said she would weedeat if only our weedeater wasn't so big. I sent her off to buy a stihl of her choosing. Well , she brought one back, and used it maybe once or twice...and that was it. I have been using it every since...and the Toro just hangs on the wall. It still works however. Only trouble I ever had with it was that I left it out in the rain once, and had some problems with the electrics...but soon got that fixed and no problem since. The trimmer heads were crude in those days however... mine had an aluminum head, that you threaded 2 pieces of heavy monofilament through some tabs. The aluminum tabs soon wore down, and wouldn't hold the line. I upgraded the head to a newer version, which worked much better.

( Poulan straight shaft 5yrs old was real good till this summer. Motor vibrates and works its self off the shaft have to check it everytime. Pretty wild when your motor head falls off and hits the ground. )

THIS is what we're talking about when we say "you get what you pay for"

I have a friend who swears by his Poulan chainsaw. Funny thing is, when he's using it and anyone shows up, he's all of a sudden just putting it away. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif I kind of think he's ashamed or embarassed to use it around anyone??? /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

I've got an old curved shaft Stihl that is in the neighborhood of 13-16 yrs old. Starts fine, but, it does have some hesitation at full throttle. I need to pull the carb and rebuild it. Other than that, it's been a great weedeater. It was originally a rental unit at a shop I used to work at. It has been put through the paces and still runs pretty good. In the future I would like a nice new straight shaft though.

maruyama 26cc / husqvarna 26cc both 4+ years. great trimmers I use them at home & my son uses them in his lawn business. no problems husky approx $316.00 maruyama was $280.00. They aren't cheap but they last. I owned several cheap trimmers (names I won't mention), but no more wasted money! If you have alot of grass to trim, don't waste your money, buy a good trimmer

I have an old green curved shaft Weedeater brand trimmer that is approx 20 yrs old. One fuel line, one spark plug and one carb cleaning and is still going strong.

Sometimes you get more than you pay for, and sometimes you pay a lot more for what you get.

13 year old curved shaft Homelite. Pull once on choke, pull twice on middle setting (rich) to start. It doesnt have much power in the run position so I leave it in the middle setting.

Wonder if that friend is thinking “that darn hobbyfarm guy always shows up AFTER the work is done”

I had to make that joke.

BTW...my Poulan chain saw works great....only problem is I put the wrong plunger bulb on it (right one not in stock locally) and it stays in when you push it (think that’s the prob since OEM had two different sized lines and one I used is two equal sized lines, could also be vent problem). The engine runs very smooth and the spring isolated handle bar really cuts vibration. Looks to me Poulan saws are much better than Poulan string trimmers....in fact I believe the Poulan and my Craftsman (that I hated) are one and the same. Wish manufacturers would stop trying to have a full line of products and just stick to the ones they do well.

Didn't Poulan make the Weedeater brand of trimmers ?

I also have a poulan CS about 4 yrs old gone thru 1 bar and about 5 or 6 chains. I cut about 20 pickup loads of firewood per winter.
Saw still going strong. Had to replace one of the antivibe springs a couple of months ago, no other repairs have been done to saw.

Appears to be the same on at least some models. Looking for parts online I see Poulan and Weadeater grouped together. I had also seen a schematic for my old Craftsman that used the exact same schematic as a Poulan. Probably can add several other names to that as well.

This might be a tip-off..."Also fits Weedeater®, Snapper®, Craftsman®, Ryobi®, John Deere®, and Homelite® multi-tool attachment systems"

Yup, and Husqvarna and Jonsered.
All under the Electrolux Brand umbrella.

Shows you that those sharks that take over other corporations know what they want, and what's good! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
