How much would I notice 11 extra PTO HP?

Look at the torque of the engine as well. Look at horsepower and torque curves along the rpm range which both manufacturers typically publish. Also take a look at where the PTO speed is set/rated at what engine rpm. That will tell you the most. Lower RPM engines with equivalent HP typically develop more torque and in PTO work that's where the important number lies. A lot of companies substitute higher RPM to develop HP. Higher RPM engines are subject to a lot more wear and tear as well.

This is great advice. Listen to it.

Do not let me know if you sell that Massey.:D

I know you mentioned money, but think about all the wasted time, and trips etc making swaps on machines. Just go get a JD 5 series (or brand of your choice) and be done with it. They are about the same price as the 4 series in many cases, and even less expensive in some.

Actually haven't lost much money, so that hasn't really come into play that much. Problem with stepping up is HST. I need to stay with HST, no exceptions

HST looses more power from the engine to the pto than other type tractors. It can be as much as 20% differential in engine HP and PTO hp. Geared transmissions, and or other forms of power transmissions have 10% or slightly less. Typically more service issues long run as well with hst and more costly to repair.

Maybe not, but I bet it's more than you think if you add it all up- trips to look at machines, hauling them home etc., not to mention future trips to do more of the same.

Get a JD with a Pow'r Reverser trans and you'll never miss the hydro, but you'll have better pto performance, and much more durability for ground engaging tasks.

Guys ... I'm staying with HST. No exceptions! I tried shuttle for a bit and didn't care for it.

Loss from engine to wheel drive is high for HST. Loss from engine to pto stub is about the same as gear tho. Sometimes its hard to use pto only so the hi ground drive loss tends to rear its head often. A "hidden" parasite in one part of the system.

Many (if not most) manu's show a higher loss for the PTO than to the rear wheels for a hydro. It just feels like more to the rear wheels when they won't turn LOL.

TSO- the Pow'r Reverser isn't a shuttle shift. No clutching at all needed or involved unless so desired in close quarters for backing up to implements etc. Throwing the lever is as fast and easy as using a hydro pedal or pedals. For snow plowing it is a far better and more durable, reliable tranny than a hydro. Just an FYI.

This doesnt really address what I said. I was comparing power output wheel to wheel and pto to pto for gear and HST.

A power reverser is a shuttle shift. It just does the clutching for you. And yes it is easy to change directions, but nothing beats a hydro for inching around and being able to instantly vary your ground speed without changing your engine or PTO speed.
