Can anyone answer the DPF question, why so we have a filter, that traps super fine particles in the exhaust only to heat them up and blow them out when the filter is full. And if you are driving a ute in a stubble paddock, and the DPF does a region burn up goes your ute and paddock in flames. And don't forget dinosaurs, remember having to pull on the choke cable, depending on the vehicle, you had to have your tongue sticking out the right direction, and even then had to wait 5 minutes plus before you could drive off. Good ECU's and EFI have been wonderful.

Particle size? Or it might be the exact nature/chemistry of the particles changes when super heated? I can't answer that.

The second part; you can avoid by driving your truck into the pasture; and leave the Ute at home :)

Didn't know what other countries have adopted all this stuff; I know Russia has not; and oddly enough the US airforce F series diesels don't have regen/dpf/DEF either...

Really??? When was  that vote? I too want clean air but won't sacrifice our economy to carry the rest of the world.

The fact is that unelected bureaucrats are slowly outlawing my gas car to be replaced by EV's. A machine that requires nasty rare earth metals, which are mined in far away countries, processed in China, shipped back, ending with a product that can't be recycled. All the while countries that hate us are encouraging us on! Consumers are NOT asking for this.
The vote I was speaking about was the United Nations and the Paris agreement/accord. It was 2015ish. For more information - https://unfccc.int/process-and-meetings/the-paris-agreement
The US withdrew from it, but have since rejoined with Biden.

I would point out that at one point the iron in all our current cars was mined from the earth as well. I do trust that at one point those precious metals will get recycled. The free market will see the potential, same as they do with scrap electronics and copper. Basically no one throws away a gold chain.

This might be a dumb question, but do airplanes have emissions on them? There are thousands upon thousands in the air flying day and night burning lots of jet fuel.

I know piston planes (not all prop planes, many commercial props are turbo props) still use lead additive

Yes, I knew exactly what you were referring to. None of us got to vote on it either.... but at least we can vote in/out the politicians that get us involved (note that the biggest polluters in the world don't partake do they...)

Regarding recycling: it's not even financially feasible to recycle plastic bottles. Reclaiming rare earth metals encased in plastic won't happen... they will become hazardous waste.

All of my machines are pre-emissions not by design only because I have older machines. They are easier to work on and it is one less thing to break or pay to fix.

Ok, let's maybe look at this in a different, theortical approach. If you could pre-pay a "carbon emissions tax", of say 10% of the purchase price, and not have emissions; would you pay 10% higher price to not have the emissions equipment.
I've already done that for a few of my on-road vehicles. It's called the "gas guzzler tax", and it's applicable to vehicles with fully-compliant emissions systems, but which still fall below certain fuel mileage standards. Mostly very high horsepower cars.

Varies $1000 - $7700, depending on EPA-rated mileage:

It's good they're easier to repair, because they need it much more frequently! I loved the simplicity of my 1963 IH, but using it daily, it seemed like something major was wearing out or breaking every year.

I sold each of my last two machines because the cost of parts just became insane, as they aged out. Deere still carried all parts for my 1986 model 855, and I could even source parts for my 1963 IH... but prices varied from "expensive" to "collectible".

Parts for tractors still in production seem to run 50% to 75% less than out of production models, at least with Deere. I also need a lot less of them, with no breakdowns in the last 5 years on my 2019 machine, other than me shearing one ROPS-mounted light off.

I love Coal, Carbon and Oil for without which we would still be in the Stone Age. Cheap energy is what has improved humanity the most. All this garbage about climate change is just that, garbage.
As far as pre- emissions, if it improves the tractors performance keep it, if not get rid of it.
