How much can I really lift??

If the load is really near the limits, I often tell people to lift the load, then drive the truck out from under it, then lower it to the ground, or nearly so, then drive around with it. I nearly rolled a 584 IH once lifting a partial pallet of asphalt shingles. It lifted right up and I turned as I backed and over we almost went. Good advice you are getting. One thing I have said many times, a little forklift lifts a lot more than a big tractor.

Did you get your building unloaded OK? Did the 7520 work, or did you end up getting a forklift?

Blu;

I can tell you that I have unloaded a 3100# hay bine of my trailer with chains
hooked over the front of the loader. and a small ballast wt. on 3 pt. Have not got a round to loading rear tires yet.

With my forks on no problem with a couple of 10 ft. x 24" maple logs.
Can not say enough good things about this tractor; it is a mule

Thanks all. I have not unloaded the truck, it comes on 31 Jan. I have priced forklift rentals just in case. My problem is I cannot wait until the truck arrives and then discover that the tractor can't do the job. I know the tractor is quite strong and I have lifted some large trees with my root rake but I really don't know its real weight-lifting capability. Safest thing, I guess is to rent a forklift but I hate to waste that money if my tractor could do it.

Blu 82,
Before you go and do that, see if you can find an object the same weight and see about lifting it.
hugs, Brandi

How about you have the forklift on call/hold and If the driver has to wait get him a good lunch

Lifting capacity is rated differently on a forklift versus a tractor. His 3900 lbs. is at the pivot pin. Forklifts are rated at 24" out from the heel of the fork. So that 3900 back at the pivot pin may be 3000 or more or less once you get 24" or more farther out.
Wish I saw this earlier. You can specify that no pallet weigh over 2000 lbs. They may charge a little more for the extra palletizing, but this is common practice in the shipping industry. They say 3000 because that is a standard small forklift lifting capacity.

Wayne County--great info but too late. I wish I could have told them no pallet more than 2000 lbs. but I never thought about it.

Yes, I was able to unload w/my tractor. I put 28 lbs of air in the front tires but didn't change anything else. I was very careful and cautious especially since I have never done anything like this before. Some of the items were 20ft long or more. One load (about 21 ft long x 4 ft wide x about 8 inches high and supposedly 3045 lbs--could have been more with the wood packing) I was able to lift only a couple of inches to get it off the truck but then couldn't curl the fork:eek: that was exciting since it was fairly high. Had to be creative to get it down--slid it off on a higher area. Only a couple times did the tractor feel lighter on the rear but I moved fairly slow (had backhoe on back). Most of the stuff didn't cause a strain on the tractor. Just a couple of the loads were challenging.

thanks all for the help.

Blu 82,
I'm glad to here you were able to handle the load safely, and without incident. I thought the 7520 would handle it, but I also knew only marginally. Glad to here it worked out.
