He should have just shot that vacuum cleaner full of daylight! What kicked in? The PTSD?

All this stuff has to be the CIAs (and similar organizations) dream come true.

I'm a dummy, first to admit it.

I can be on tractor by net and previously looking at something online, and guess what kind of ads now appear when I'm online? Funny enough, some things I could of just been looking at on my computer.

Guess what happens if now speakers are in your home that you can talk to do either look things up for you or control things in your own home...

I really have to bite my tongue when people ask what kind of thermostat can tie into their smart home.

The privacy aspect of it doesn't really concern me. I just don't want my life full of more stuff than necessary, that I don't know how it works and have no control over it. Also, the time to get all this stuff working and keep it working can't be justified for any benefit. I can have a simple switch on the wall that turns on the light when you flip it up or off when you flip it down. It cost 59 cents and will work reliably for fifty years. That's hard to beat!

It starts to get really annoying when there are endless high tech things in your house that don't work properly.

To me it's a simple question; just because it's newer, does that make it better? My first line of security is my deadbolt, my second line is a very noisy dog.

A friend just bought a new TV and Kitchen Range claiming a "Surge" took out the old ones. Is this new digitally controlled consumer BS really worth any extra conveniance or feature if that's what it's going to cost on an ongoing basis?

For the most part no...

Six years ago a 400k neighborhood remodel went all high end for appliances. I got the old washer dryer, tosiba TV and refrigerator... guess which ones are still working... hint it isn't the new stuff

I like the technology in its place. In some ways are lives are better for it. When was the last time you heard of someone who flooded their car and killed the battery? But, I think of lot of it has become solutions still looking for a problem.

Now you just have to buy a thousand dollar mirror.

I was watching a channel I sometimes watch and the fellow was visited by two "security" professionals.

Said the guy would get 3 grand worth of free security hardware, just for having one of their lawn signs. FREE equipment, FREE Service, FREE lifetime Warranty, FREE tech Upgrades. The guy specifically said it was at no cost. BUT, at the end, announces that it will cost $65.00 a month for monitoring! When the prospective customer asked if he still gets the stuff if he doesn't want monitoring, the sales guys said, "what, do you think we are gonna give you three grand worth of stuff?". Glad the sales people wasted their time.

Just plain DISHONEST SCUM! Makes me embarrased to be part of that industry.
