Will kubota engines generally go before needing an overhaul providing they are maintained according to the book? Mine just turned over 450 and it seems like its runs as good as the day i got it. How many hours do you have on yours?

I had 1,353 hours on my L3830 when I traded it recently. The engine was running like the day I purchased it new. I serviced it as shown in the Owner's Manual using Kubota filters and fluids. With proper maintenance, I don't think engine longevity is a real concern.

450 is barely broken in, by diesel standards. I would expect you to get well in excess of 5000 hours, maybe twice that if it was used for long periods under load. Idling and frequent start-stop cycles are hard on engines. One of the large diesel manufacturers estimates each start is equivalent to 20 running hours worth of wear and tear.

450 hours is just a starting point. Decent diesel engines should get 4-6000 hours or more before needing an overhaul and Kubota makes excellent engines. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone having to overhaul an engine here on the board.

I can tell you that for tracked skid steers, they usually need undercarriage overhaul at 2-3000 hours but I don't hear people needing engine overhauls.

Clean fuel and clean filters are the life of a diesel. There's a Kubota at work with 3,000+ hours that still runs well. Another does perimeter patrol 24/7 and has more issues with wearing out tires than engine problems.

I have seen many Kubota engines with 5K - 10+K hours running like new with only prescribed maintenance done on them. On the other hand I have seen the same number or more with engine worn out in under 500 hrs. due no or poor maintenance, or running contaminated fuel.

Agreed. Over 5100 hours on my L2550DT. Engine runs well, rest is getting a little sloppy.

thats good to know. Im amazed at my tractor, its basically just like it was the day i bought it, still tight, still bright orange and does everything i ask of it, never had one single problem, knock on wood.
