How many acres do you own?

We have 17 acres plus another two that the feds technically own around the reservoir but we take care of it, mow it and put the chickens on it occasionally. We have about five acres of non-forest land and the rest is a mix of 50 year old pines and somewhat older oak, walnut, tulip poplar and big sycamores.

123 acres, mostly woods, a peat bog and equal swamp, 4 acre gravel pit, and a trout brook runs thru it. Bought it to homestead on and keep neighbors back.

Built a 28x36 off-grid home in 2008, 20x30 barn/work shop, woodshed, and finally a sawmill (open) shack. Mostly just live/work around here but we put on a few music shows each year and rent a few quiet camper lots.
Three tractors in and finally have one that doesn't need constant fixing!

25 acres on a river in southern Maine, about 5 miles inland from the Atlantic coast. Typical lot size in my area is about 5-50 acres. No neighbors nearby and we enjoy the quiet privacy.

Thanks for pics. Is the music festival a revenue source for you? Sounds very cool, someplace I'd go watch music in the great outdoors...

How many acres only tells half the story. I have 34 acres and 5 tractors. The engine horsepower adds up to 111, so that works out to 3.26 horsepower per acre.

That includes 10, 14.5, 15.5, 28, and 43 hp models from (4) different manufacturers.

(2) of those are lawn tractors, used only for mowing, a John Deere 15.5 and a Poulan 14.5 hp.

My other 3, which do the rest of the work, are the American “big 3”: John Deere 43 hp, Ford 28 hp, and IH 10 hp.

What part of the country?

We have 90. In one day in 1986 we moved from Los Angeles to the mountains and never looked back. Central California foothills - wooded and rolling hills - some steep areas/ravines - with elevation from about 2300 to about 3000 - maybe higher? We have fenced the perimeter and cross fenced nine pastures inside so we can rotate the grazing (mitigating the fire risk from the house area outward). Have cows, goats, chickens, dogs, cats and in the area wild pigs, bob cats and the usual variety of critters. No real neighbors and I like the seclusion - just family and animals. We spend our time and money on constantly improving things and taking care of everything - I consider that a less expensive hobby than many others. I often describe the joy of living here as a 'feeling of space' everytime I go out each morning. I could never live in the city again.

Our daughter and son-in-law are building a house on the property on a nearby hill top with amazing views of the mountains. It is great to have them here and to know they will enjoy what we have created here.
