How loud is your Kioti?

I just picked up some sound proofing panels. They r 12 in x 12 in. And made out of denim. I'm going to install them around my cab doors and other areas. Also thought about carpeting floor, fenders and under seat. I would love to hear if any one has had any luck quieting there's down or ideas to do so. Will post results if I try this.

Those sound levels will cause permanent hearing loss. Got to wear hearing protection. For instance, at 90dB permanent hearing loss happens after 1-2 hours of exposure. Repeat damage is cumulative.

Thanks for posting this. The comparative differences in the charts of NIOSH and OSHA are eye openers. Or I should say ear openers. Over the years, I've been as cavalier as most people about ear protection (well, maybe not most, if we include the boombox crowd, and now some of the MP3 teens and twenty-somethings). Took me awhile to appreciate the idea of hearing loss occurring after only very short exposures, because the permanent loss each time is so slight. Like not really noticing how much much taller your kids have grown because you see them every day. But it's just as irreversible.

I need to check the sound levels inside the cab of our NX4510. With our older open-station tractor, I've always worn mickey-mouse ears or the DIY custom molded earplugs. But in the new tractor, I want to hear the radio. The cab speakers are up by the operator's head, but I still need to crank the volume up when I'm using the loader at 2000-2600 rpm. I'm worried there's a trade-off I will eventually regret. Earbuds would help with that problem, but probably make me less aware of what's going on sound-wise outside the cab. Still going to try them.

The "app" on my Android phone registered a high of 78 and an average of 74 db with my cutter going.

I held my phone close to my left ear for about 3 minutes.

I wear hearing protectors with a built in radio that is set by the manufacturer to not exceed 85 dB to avoid hearing damage: Howard Leight by Honeywell 1010390 Hi-Vis Radio and MP3 Ear Muff, bright green with reflective headband, 1-Pair - Safety Ear Muffs - Amazon.com
I use at full volume and they work great. I also think the 3 cylinder Kiotis are louder than 78 dB at the seat at PTO throttle. I'd bet it is more like 95 dB. They are loud, much louder than the 4 cylinder tractors I've heard, and way louder than the 85 dB radio.

there's no way they are over 90db. that would cause allot of discomfort very quickly. I'm thinking they might be in the low 80's somewhere.

Now that I think about it, it is probably in the mid to upper 80's. It's louder than my radio, but maybe not mid 90's high. The CK's sure are loud though.

Just a few dB make a huge difference for our hearing. The decibel scale is logarithmic (as is the scale for earthquakes). E.g., a sound that is 3 dB higher is actually twice as loud. An increase of 10 dB means it's 10 times as loud!

my 89 yo father got his ears pretty well blown out in WWII in Normandy. He's nearly deaf now and I'm the one who takes him to all his Dr appointments.

His latest hearing aid fitting, last week, requires that the aids give him a 90 decibel boost so he can hear something. The hearing aids are capable of a 130 db boost.

Take care of those ears guys!

...Take care of those ears guys!

For sure. Going without hearing protection is plain stupid. Hearing loss is cumulative and permanent. Things like mowers and (especially) leaf vacs are way too loud. Most engines are too loud at high RPMs so the HST guys need protection almost always. For shooting I have electronic earmuff-type protectors that let you hear (really well, in fact) but cut off when the sound is too loud. These earmuffs are always "off" if I wear them on tractor and run high RPMs (like mowing).

My ct225 is also loud. I tested it with a I phone sound free app. Although I question it's accuracy here r my findings. All was done with a cab on and with the doors removed. At idol 95 db near exhaust 3 in away and 3 feet away was about 90. From seat at head level it was 88-89. At 24-2500 rpm (540 pto range) 97-98 at 3 in from exhaust 95 at 3 foot and 95 in driver seat head level. It's louder in my cab when my doors r on but have not tested it yet.

Wow. I have not noticed any issues with mine being loud at all. Wonder if the different motors make a difference or what.

The loudest thing about my DK50 is the nice cool air blasting from the AC ... unless I crank up the stereo :)

There must be a big difference in noise depending on the motor as I have no issues with noise on mine either.

I never thought mine was loud until I put a cab on. It really seems to magnify the sound. I would love it if someone comes up with a way to make it quieter. It doesn't even seem like it's exhaust noise just general engine noise. Not too bad in the summer when I run with the doors off but before winter when I put the doors back on I'm planning on really spending some time trying to soundproof it up better. I'm open to any ideas.

Took the time to sound proof the cab the best I could this weekend. Looks like it was worth the effort. One thing though anything that is designed specifically for sound proofing is crazy expensive. Before I started sound was louder with doors on. Now with doors on at idle I regrester 82 db. At 540 mark on rpm gage I get 92. Still louder than I would like but a large improvement.

Old thread but it made me wonder. Has anyone ever compared sound differences between ck 27 and ck 30.
