How Long to Remove Excavator off Back fo 23S?

I haven't done it yet. Once you get used to it, how long does it take? I'm trying to decide between the PTO-driven or self-contained engine version of the DR string trimmer. I can tow the latter with the UTV or I can use the tractor the former. Just trying to think through how handy each version will be. Thanks!

I have to jest a little... I love reading a title like this. Is someone standing there watching you with a stopwatch timing you taking your hoe off your 23S? Is there a new sport called "how long to remove a hoe"? lol

It's like removing a loader... Do it carefully the first couple times and you'll know.

Give you an example... when I was a young lad at 13 years old, I worked on a friend's farm. The first week, the old man had me swapping loaders and implements.

I remember the first time I was told to put on a loader on the JD2950. I spent like an hour plus figuring it out by myself when I was 13 with NO help. Just asking for an accident (or a lawsuit these days). Not to mention I was scared because I remember not lining up all the way and almost royally screwing up the man's machine the first time. After doing it 2, 3, 4 times, I caught on, and it was a breeze. Could do any of his tractors practically with my eyes closed. I got it down to where I could put on a loader in less than a minute on any of his machines. Same went for the 3pt implements along with properly using/setting up the check chains, top link, and draft controls in controlling implements. The old man loved me after a few months because all he had to do was ask, and 5 minutes later the machine was all set up to his likening.

With that being said, I have removed backhoes off of many Kubota SCUTs, and even though I don't do it every day, I can do it in less than 5 minutes. IIRC the 23S might even be easier than prior models.

If you do it a lot, there is a cart/caddy you can rest the hoe in, so you can move it about in your garage/barn.

First off it’s a backhoe not excavator. Assuming it’s a Kubota 4 point subframe mount it takes me about 5 minutes to connect and 5 minutes to disconnect. You can’t use the backhoe with the 3 point arms on so add another 5 minutes a trip for that. So I’m guessing it’ll take you 20 minutes to go from backhoe to 3 point to back to backhoe.

I can’t help you on the 23s. But I have an L6060HSTC and I waited all winter before removing the BH92 after getting it. I regret waiting so long. It was so easy to take it off. I haven’t put it back on yet, but I don’t expect it to be hard. The dealer told me the larger cab tractor may be easier since there was more room back there. I figured it would be harder since it was larger.

A friend of mine lent me his smaller Kubota like early 2000s model with a backhoe. He said it was very quick to add it and remove it when he lent it to me.

Messicks did a good YouTube video on removing the backhoe on the smaller tractors.

My suggestion is if you don’t need the backhoe all the time then go with the pto implement. Other exception would be if you need to take the implement somewhere the tractor can’t go safely it might be handy to tow behind a utility vehicle. I’ve thought of getting a pull behind brush cutter for my side by side to make trails where it’s not safe to take my tractor.

If you go with the standalone version, you have one more engine to maintain and IMO that’s a real PITA. Don’t keep putting off removing it because you think it will be hard. It likely won’t. It took me longer to install my 3 point hitch then removing the backhoe as I needed a couple wrenches I had to go fetch. I wouldn’t use the backhoe as a reason to purchase a non-pto implement. Just my 2 cents.

How much fence is involved? I might get kicked off the site for such a suggestion but I can do a good bit of fence with my hand held trimmer in the 20 minutes it takes you to get started. I can buy even more roundup for what the pto trimmer cost you.

I did a YouTube video showing me mounting the BH77 on my B2650, it was easily under 5 min, in 6 inches of fresh snow on a hill. Kubota has this design nailed down so tight that I think my daughter could do it in under 5 minutes if I showed/helped her twice so that she understood the process.... and she is about a mechanically inclined as my dog. The BH on my old BX25 was easier, lighter and quicker... and you have the updated and most recent version with the much faster upper pin clamp. You should be able to do that blindfolded with both arms behind your back. Yep. Kubota is that bad to the bone. So fool proof that even a fool could do it!

I was around the 2.5 minute mark when I timed it. Does the 73 second mark included the time to drive the tractor forward to disconnect the hoses and hook the backhoe hoses together?

I also don’t think it includes putting the three point back on either

I had to laugh about the daughter doing it in 5 minutes earlier. I had never done mine before and I was very surprised how easy it was for the BH92. Now I did cheat and take photos of the manual pages to have them handy on my phone.
