Remember butchered weigh and live weight will vary considerably. Many of the cuts may not suit your needs.

Yes agree, but you also need to look at the tax savings on property tax to get "Bona fide" that should be about $1,000/year Un propertytax savings. But, yes, you are right. I had kinda considered meat sheep (definitely a hair breed, not a wool breed), but wife and kids aren't big fans of lamb. Goats would be useless pasture pets to us.

We definitely will look at everything, and come up with a plan, but whatever it is, we will need to get grass growing in this field.

there is nothing from stopping you to spread hay and manure on it, if you can got your hands on some especially if cheep/free … but still seed and fertilize.

I've got a 6x10 ag use dump trailer on my Proxibid watch list; think it's 45 mph max. I've watched same dump wagon on the June and Juky monthly auction, and it didn't meet minimum bid, so maybe seller dropped min? There is always a lot of horse manure available about 35 miles south of me; horse people. Realistically, I'm not actually going to bid high enough to win; got too much going on now.

Been a while, but I've been busy. I went ahead and took down a bunch of 4-5" dead trees, were the old owners goats had "ringed" the bark. Also took down a couple large dead pines. I also had a spoiled bail of hay that I scattered.

I also still haven't 100% moved to the new place, and I had to stop at old to pick up a couple things, and check on it. I had regraded a pretty good area, and it was bare orange-yellow sand down 1". I had a bag of old scratch feed, and figured, not sure what's actually in here, beyond cracked corn, but it can't hurt. So I had threw about 30# of scratch feed. Looks like something is popping up, wheat, barley, oats, idk

Cheap and easy is offer to put up a couple of someone else's pet horses.
Tell the owners they need to feed 'em on unprocessed grain, along with the hay and feed.
The horses will have that pen seeded, tilled fertilized and mulched in two months. They are so inefficient .
Then get the horses off, and let the rain do it's thing ;-)

I did pick up a couple soil sample packets, although I understand you want the sample as dry as possible, so that will have to wait. Ag Extension guy recommended the $10/test, that does PH, lime req, N, P, K, Cal, Mag, Mn?, and Zinc. For $2 more than test salt, and another $10 if you want organic matter checked. He said you get pretty much what yiu need to know from the $10 test.

He did mention something that I found od/maybe misunderstood. He said take 6" test, but if the soil changes color, to do a separate test. I have 1" of light brown, and then 5" of orangish yellow sand. I would think, yiu would mix the whole 6"? And only do a separate sample if that 1" of top soil varied a lot across the area?
