Virginia Tech pushes buried watering pipes,,
I have seen their work, they bury the tube deeper than you plow, disc or till.
So, it is permanent.
I haven't tried that,,,, YET!! :thumbsup:

They use a chain trencher, about 16HP, walk behind,,,
it would be a lot of work,,, Hmmmmmmmm,,,,,,
VT makes lots of $$$ doing the research,,, all I get is tomatoes,,, :confused2:

Hey it's prime time here in the great PNW. The better half will kill me if she knew I posted but we are just now enjoying our semi sweet white corn and Walla Walla Sweet onions among our cucumbers, squash, etc. Oh Yeah!

Wow that corn looks great. Always amazed how varied are our seasons. I had corn like that in June! Attempts to grow later crops went awry. Enjoy

You are right. It was so long ago that fresh corn is just a distant memory. I had three corn patches this year, plus those in the grow bags. The first sweet corn patch did well, and so did the field corn that had the Filipino pole beans planted in them. But that last patch of sweet corn that grew so tall and pretty didn't make very good ears.
And while my 2nd or 3rd planting of Armenian cucumbers were the best, they didn't last through much of the summer heat. I think I miss those the most.

I have been thinking about the logistics of it. When you put down the pipes, you are pretty much stuck where your rows are going to be. I change crops so often, that would be a challenge.

They ran out of material, so.....
Seems the folks who publish the Lake Magazine Lake Martin, Alabama ran out of things to write about and decided to include an article about some garden growing on a pier. Seems like a pretty neat garden

Those Garden Beans in the Heat
If this summer heat continues every year or is just a blimp like the 1930s era was, we gardeners need to take heed in our quest to grow something to eat. Garden beans were the biggest let down this year. I found when living in Singapore that normal pole beans do not even flower if the temperature never drops below 70 F. It never does in Singapore. My pole bean plant I tried there vined all over the balcony but not a blossom ever in sight.
This year, my bush beans quit, and the pole beans bore only a little bit. Those 2 or 3 days in August when it did go below 70 at night produced some pole beans and a tad of bush beans. They may start producing in September.
Yet my pole asparagus beans kept chugging along. Note: quit planting bush bean seeds past June. Then start planting them again about mid August. I知 guessing on these dates. Seem about right. Seed will literally pop from the soil in August in like 2 or 3 days, if watered. They climb strings, and their seeds produce in kind.
You never know when frost will occur. One year in NJ, we didn稚 get a frost until near Christmas. So, planting a little strip of bush beans up through about early October might work.
Both Burpee and Southern Exposure Seed Exchange have asparagus beans.
