I got green beans, sweet corn, soy beans, pink-eyed purple hull peas and field corn planted in the ground today. Tomatoes transplanted into bigger pots and into the RNRGGS {red neck rain gutter grow system} and about everything else out of the hole and into full sun. Then tonight I planted trays of cucumbers {munchers and Armenian}, squash {crook neck and zukes}. I do have pictures, but my camera is in the car, and it's bed time.

You use planters Larro?

This little One Larro powered one. The row marker doesn't go out to 36", so I set it at 18" and go through and lay off the rows first, then plant in every other row.

I do have a set of two row planters for the 3930, and a little single row planter that came with an old Wheel Horse garden tractor that I keep meaning to mount to a set of cultivators I got with my B7500, but have never got around to doing it. Working in the garden was a big part of my loosing 75 pounds, so I don't want to take too much of the work out of it.

Understood biggest reason I use them is to he able to cultivate if I couldn't it would be impossible to grow on the scale I do without being overrun with weeds.

I have thought about using the tractor in the garden. The B7500 would do alright in the cramped confines, but I'm trying to go smaller this year. I enlarged the garden to about 2 acres last year, and that is bigger than I have time to keep it up like it should be.

I stopped and looked at my planters a couple of days ago, and I also have a single row that hooks to the cultivator. Not sure if it has a mate or not, but I do remember using it for planting that was on 6' centers, like melons.

I've caught up with my pictures from the other day {3-8-16} Here is the line-up, starting at my subterranean greenhouse and running to the tree in the center of the garden {east to west}. Bush beans, sweet corn, soy beans, peas and field corn.

DSCF7583.JPG

And yesterday's planting. {I did skip a few rows to the east of the tree} From the tree toward the west end of garden, it's 2015 Armenian cucumbers, 2014 Armenian Cucumbers {seeds from a lady that works with Margie}, Acorn squash, Charleston Grey, 2014 Crimson Sweet, 2015 Crimson Sweet melons, 2013 banana cantaloupe, cucumbers {from Co-Op}, Marketmore Cucumbers, straight neck squash and half a row each of zucchini and crook neck squash.

Also got a few more tomatoes into the trench. The bigger ones are Beef Steak, with a few younger Yellow Pear tomatoes too. It was cloudy most of the day, so I risked putting them straight from the lights into full sun. It's overcast again today, with rain coming tonight and tomorrow, so maybe they will toughen up enough before they full force of the sun hits them.

I also planted 48 Chinese Orange and 24 Sweet Kumquat seeds. Margie was told the Kumquat were from seedling stock, meaning not grafted. In a few years we will see if that is the case or not. I know the Chinese oranges are from seedling stock, as I grew the two trees down at the river camp from seeds. Each orange makes lots of seeds, so if I stick with it, I should have quite the orange orchard soon. But last year I moved the young trees into full sun sooner than I should have and lost 15 of them, leaving my only 1 for the year. But it looks good and will be going into the ground soon.

Planted another style of tomatoes, some bell peppers and jalapeño peppers on the 10th. I'm probably a little behind but oh well.

Wednesday I put in 8 rows of silver king and 6 rows of silver queen. Should be room for 4 rows of okra on the far end and the cukes and squash will go on the near end.

Then today I put in cangreen and tendergreen beans and the trellis for the cukes.

I should trellis my cukes. I have grown them on the fence before, but the deer eat the outside half. I'm growing field corn just so my pole beans will have something to grow on. I guess I could plant cukes in there as well.

Yes trellis your cucumbers. Best way to grow them in my opinion. I used a few metal fence posts and some left over welded wire mesh fencing. Works great and you can set up quick and easy.

What kind of deer fence do you have?

I use the 5 foot 2X4" fence. It had worked for three or four years, but last fall the deer did jump it and eat my last patch of peas. I've got to put up a 2nd fence, most likely electric, about 3 feet outside the other one. Lots of folks on here swear by the double fence. Deer have to see a clear landing spot before they jump. The double fence takes away that spot.

Yea I've heard the same thing. I've been doing an electric fence with a exta large charger on it then baiting it with peanut butter. This year I'm just praying so far but that may change.

I have peas up. They didn't really need it, but I plowed them anyway. It was in the 80's and I worked up a sweat. Man did that feel good.

There were a few sprouts of the field corn up this morning. Not enough yet for me to plant the pole beans though. Last year when I planted them at the same time, the beans out grew the corn by a long way. They were too heavy for the young corn plants.

I just put my corn in the ground today, along with field peas, and squash. The peas are starting to trellis already, and potatoes are going crazy
