How does your garden grow?

Gonna be COLD in central Alabama tonight. Hope my stuff makes it, and hope this is the last cold night.

Thanks Tom. It's just a touch over half an acre. A lot of that will be cover crop and will be used to get the soil better. This coming winter that'll likely be a strawberry patch. I have another area that'll probably be the vegetable garden next year that I'll start working on eventually.

L 'n G, I think these cold nights are slowing everything in my garden down. Or else the frost set it back more than I thought. Everything is growing slowly.

LA C, glad to see your water level went down enough you could get started:eek: We just got over another 100 year flood here, the third one in the last 20 years. It got some of our new longleaf pines down at the riverfield, but didn't effect us here at the house.

I side dressed, plowed and hoed the field corn and peas this morning. Also got a few more trays ready for planting on Tuesday and Wednesday. I just need to decide what, and buy the seeds when I go to town.

My early tomatoes seem to have weathered the weather OK. Maybe night temps now will stay in the fifties.

Many of the larger ones still have blossoms but I don't know what the cool temps have done to them. Maybe!

These were planted a little later, and still look good after the last two nights in low forties.

And lots more that need to go somewhere.

It's a row builder from Lowery Manufacturing out of north Alabama. It's also called a hipper and a bedder in other regions. There's a small equipment dealer that sells their stuff and I'm happy with it. Seems well made.

Thanks. I need to get something like that.

Other than the Cherub tomatoes, I don't have an excess of anything. I only planted 6-8 of most stuff and when you cull out the runts, that's not very many to give away. I have a old Asian lady friend with whom I trade plants and seeds back and forth. I was getting a cross section of hot peppers ready for her today, and on some varieties, I only have two good plants. It's hard to give away half of your crop. But I did get a lot more pepper seeds in soil a couple days ago. Maybe they will be big enough to transplant, and give away, soon.

Garlics up, peas are in, It rained all day today.

I spread wood ash to combat the acid soils. The winter rye IS so green! Daffodils on the kitchen table.

Gardens are fine
