Does the hour meter start when the engine is running or does the tractor need to be driven to make it register? I did a job that took me four hours today, but the hour meter only registered three hours.
On most CUT's the hour meter reads hour for hour at PTO speed. In other words.......whatever RPM you need to get 540 RPM PTO.

Unless Kubota changed how the B7800 works from the B2910. The hour meter keeps time by the hours run at PTO speed. If you ran your engine at less than 2600 RPM’s then the full 4 hours will not show on the hour meter.
How are we supposed to keep an accurate count of the actual hours on the tractor if the hour meter only works at full throttle??????????????? I usually run mine around 2000 RPM for most grading work. /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif

That’s the same way the Hour Meter worked on my 1958 Farmal 340..

I think of it as kinda like an engine odometer. That is, rather than just total running hours, it more closely approximates the total number of revolutions or the total distance the pistons have traveled. In that respect, IMHO, I think it's better this way since it's used to dictate when to change the engine oil.

I've wondered how the hourmeter worked since I bought the tractor. Let me make sure I understand, if my PTO speed is 2600 rpm, then if I run the tractor at 1300 rpm, it takes 2 hours running time to record 1 hour on the meter?

JMZ...I think you are right on there!

8561,
That is exactly the way my B2910 works... /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif
