Mt new garden space is 60' wide with 175' rows. My tractor tires are 4' from centers. I always make my middles 1 tire width ( I know they are wider than the tires, just couldn't think of a better way to put it) but I've read on here a few places that some of you do 2 tire widths. What are your thoughts on this? I hardly ever fully plant a garden at one time. I'll start some stuff then a few weeks later start some other stuff and so on.

What do y'all think?

Thanks
John

Normally, you set up a tractor so you can straddle two rows. Around here we use a 30" row center and my tires are 58" center to center so it all just clears.

When I plant with a one row corn planter I plant on the edge of one side a couple inches in from the tire. Then I turn around and come back in the row and wind up with approximately a 30" row. For tomatoes and things that are hand planted I use a 36" row center.

In my part of the country WEEDS are the main problem in a garden so whether I plant corn, potatoes, tomatoes etc. I make sure I space so I can either get a tractor or tiller in between the rows as long as possible to get after the weeds. To be more earth friendly I sometimes let the weeds grow around the plants, such as tomatoes in cages and then just keep everything mowed like a lawn. I hate it when the weeds grow faster and better than the garden plants!
