Does anyone use gloves when picking their nuts? Or do you just let your hands get stained?

We have a lot of Walnuts this year. My wife (who is in charge of the garden) leaves them in the yard because she does't want the stains on her hands.
How do you peel the skin off? Are all Walnuts edible/tasty?
I prefer a heavy weight 100% cotton bath towel.
We used to live in Rural SW Missouri, and there were lots of Walnut trees. My Grand dad paid me $1 per gunny sack of walnuts I would pick up for him. (circa 1949 or 1950) They still had the green husks on them. He would take them home and pour them out on his driveway (it was a dirt drive) and keep running over them until the husks were pretty much off the nuts. Worked for him!

I just have black walnuts and timing is everything. Leave them on the ground in a shady spot until the husks are all black and mushy, then, dehusk and throw in pails. Fill the pails with water and work the nuts using your hand/arm. Most of the black goo will have come off so you can lay the nuts out on sunny concrete or the like. After they are good and dry, store in mesh bags.
...you just keep egging us on, don't you! Gloves yes. When I was young I didn't know better. Now... gloves for about anything that doesn't require a fork/knife, chopsticks, or a keyboard (if mine)!Does anyone use gloves when picking their nuts? Or do you just let your hands get stained?
