Hey All,

I had the dealer do the 50hr service on my L4300 as I really didn't have the time nor the buckets to do it myself. My question is; How do I know? The invoice had a parts used list and they had oil filter, hydraulic filter, fuel filter and 2 gallons engine oil listed but no hydraulic fluid.

When I got the tractor back I looked at all the plugs and the engine oil plugs were missing paint and had a little oil on them but the hydraulic drain plugs didn't look like they were touched. A quick call to the dealer and he said, "yeah, we changed the hydraulic fluid". But how do I really know?

I don't know about your specific model, but many tractors don't need the hydraulic fluid changed at 50 hours. I check the owners manual to see what was needed, then I would call back and talk to them. If I recall correctly the 50hr service on the TC24 required a new hydraulic filter, but not changing the fluid. I don't recall the 50hr service on the B2910 as that was way too long ago.

The Kubota B series tractor manuals require changing the hydraulic oil as well as the filter. They also state that the fluid strainer must be cleaned. Most of the folks on TBN, who have done their own 50 hr service, have seen lots of metal particles captured by the metal strainer.

It seems to me that the dealer would have written on the invoice that the hydraulic oil had been changed. For the small B2400, it takes almost 5 gallons of fluid and at $70 per 5 gallons, I'm sure they would have wanted you to pay for it.

If I may be so bold to suggest...your dealer didn't change the hydraulic oil. For the future, write the date of installation and the number of hours on the filters. I use an indelible marker.

Not necessarily what you want to do, but I would think if you drained it yourself and then pulled the strainer it would be obvious. I would also look at the hydraulic filter. My original one was painted with the tractor, so it was gray. New one is black.
