I get the fact that at some point, it becomes a challenge. If all else fails, you could try this:
Build a big fire around the rock and keep it stoked it for a few days. Then fracture it by dumping a FEL bucket filled with cold water on it. Remove the pieces and re assemble the rock in it's new location. If you're lucky, it will break up into several large pieces with only a few smaller chunks.
If you're careful, the pieces should fit together neatly, and if positioned correctly, it will look like the original boulder.
