I'll try to keep this short.

Decided to start up the tractor today and run the disc over the garden sense the tractor had not been run in a couple of months due to winter.

heres what happened. tractor was run with no water in radiator/motor for no more then 10 min temp never got over normal running temp on guage "due to freeze plug popping out sometime this winter" the motor had a sudden loss of power then died also blow a puff of smoke out of PCV "i think anyway" it's the valve on top of the valve cover with a hose running off of it down to the below the starter. it also blew some oil out from around the valve cover gasket.

I was able to restart the motor and it came up to rpm and sound fine and ran fine. but it is still blowing gray smoke from the PCV tube. I pulled the valve cover all looked ok.

what do I need to do next? I know the first thing I need to do is replace the freeze plug. Is it ok to reuse the same freeze plug?

thanks for any input/help

It's not a good thing to run hot. You may have gotten lucky. I would install a new freeze plug fill with the correct amount of anti freeze run the tractor & see what happens. If you did any damage you will know it .

In addition to what kenmac said, I would also change the oil. Probably the reason the gauge did not show hot was that there was never any coolant in contact with the sensor to heat it up.

Sounds like you my have gotten lucky. I would definitely change the oil like normde says. And use a new freeze plug. Then fill it up with antifreeze mix and go to it.

Finally able to see someone else out there besides me for a change that has a YM2200. I had mine given to me after my in law used the tractor with no water in radiator. He assumed it was useless. I then dug into it after chatting with some folk on here. Extra thanks to Mark777 with the instant message support..When I had got my yanmar it would start but had very low power and white smoke out the exhaust. Come to find out it was running off one of two cylinders. I then pulled the head and saw that it had a cracked head which leaked water into the one cylinder. I took the head to get repaired to a place called Mosley Machine Shop in downtown Houston and they did a very good job on making this head look brand new for 350.00. I then put it back together and so far not anything has gone wrong with that. I am not sure why oil would come out the pvc thingy since I didnt have that problem nor did I even know they had freeze plugs. Let us know what you do to get this problem fixxed since I just may have that problem one day with mine..Good luck

The gauge cannot register proper temp without direct contact with coolant. A gauge not registering hot on an empty cooling system means nothing. Sorry.
