A few months ago my Bolens G174 set off its engine temperature warning light. I got all in a flap (even buying a Kubota) but relaxed when the light quit coming on. The engine seemed cool throughout the whole process, but I drained and replaced the coolant, gave it a new fan belt, and blew the dirt out of the radiator and screen.

The best advice on this forum was for the purchase of a laser thermometer (and maybe the B7510).

In a moment of idleness a couple of days ago I tested various areas of the Bolens engine with the thermometer. All were fine, controlled by the 170 degree thermostat, until I shone the laser on the area of the cylinder head around the temperature sensor. It was hot there, up to about 235 degrees F. The rest of the engine is much cooler.

My son suggested a bubble of air trapped in the system.

Other suggestions?

Thanks,

Rod
