Here's a link to an article describing how the commercial was made, including making tires roll uphill! /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Amazing - when I first watched it, I assumed there was some trickery involved, but no - it required 606 takes! /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Re: Honda\'s Cog Ad

That ad puts in to image the feeling I have about Hondas. It is also why next Saturday I will be picking up my new Odyssey instead of buying the $8000 less Kia.
I've owned BMW, Mercedes, Honda, Toyota, VW, and Isuzu.
They all had their strong suits, but if you were to ask me an overall and include value for the dollar in as a factor, the Honda would win Hands Down!

You gotta love that baseline too! /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Absolutely!!!

I'm trying to convince my Mother and Father to spend the extra money for an Odyssey vs a Venture or Caravan... but no such luck...

A few years down the road, the Odyssey is worth twice what the others are and still running like new and still No Repairs... /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Go Honda!

I was a die-hard Toyota fan...i've owned 7-8 of them since the early 80's, and i still have 2 now...but when it came time to purchase a new vehicle for the family, Toyota had priced themselves right of the market...I bought a 2002 Honda CRV and couldn't be happier...a great vehicle at a great price!

The added features (traction control, side curtain airbags, and 240HP!!) If they are diehard U.S.A.'ers, have them look at the sticker. 80% U.S. parts and final assembly in Alabama. My bet is most U.S. manufacturers are no better than that!

Rob,

That is the coolest thing I've seen in a long time. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif Thanks for posting the link. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Re: Honda\'s Cog Ad

I still think Toyota has a small edge on Honda. Toyotas have an across the fleet "slickness" for lack of a better term that is hard to describe. Many don't recognise it at first until they have driven several Toyotas and then drive a Nissan or Honda. That said, the difference between a Honda and Toyota and Nissan is so tiny and diffucult to substantiate that I would buy either a Toyota or Honda product without hesitation. The 99.9 percent perfection vs 99.899 percent perfection essentially cannot be differentiated. One thing I notice about modern cars is that they all look alike and the Japanese cars seem to be becoming to conservative, the colors are to muted, the body work to similar and boring. The so called Domestics (who build their cars in Mexico and Canada) are leading the charge to edgy, take chance styling and colors and for once even have some technology and purpose made engines. The Hummer H2, the Chevy SCR (whatever it is), the Dodge Viper, Fords upcoming new trucks, the new Mustang just for examples. J

Re: Honda\'s Cog Ad

I tink they all look the same because at the beginning of he design phase, they tell "HAL" (the computer from 2001 Space Odyssey) what they want (a million miles to the gallon, certain degree of safety. specific amount of leg room). At some point, they all arive at tjhe same end result. I agree that there is hints of creativity out there. There is some success to be had by creating these "different" products. I've learned my lesson though... from now on my money is on Honda. Isuzu made a great truck with the Trooper, but the depreciation on it was AWFULL!! Everything counts, including depreciation. Toyota does make good products too for sure. I think the 1% difference you desribed is about my feeling on Toyota (just in the other direction). We went to look at the new Toyota mini-van, but they didn't have any (can't keep them on the lot). And they get full sticker price right now. Honda was that way with the Odyssey until this year. Now you can get good deals since the Alabama plant ramped up production.
I had a 77 Toyota Corola Wagon that is now in the junk yard because of a wreck. I have no doubt that with a can of started fluid, we could kick it over this morning. 96c.i. of can do!

Re: Honda\'s Cog Ad

Actually my Ford truck was made in Kansas with some parts from Canada and some from Mexico and who knows where else. That was back in 93 though. I would probably do well with a Tundra except that on occasions, I need the towing and load capability of a domestic 3/4 ton. The Tundra, while a great truck, can't do that, its pretty light duty regardless of what the ads for it convey. I do like its quiet V8 and very smooth automatic it has. Fuel economy suprisingly is no better or worse then domestic 1/2 ton vehicles.

The Hondas are "The next Generation" auto. Their innovative engines and design attribute to this.

I believe that ad took over 600 takes to get right.

He gets that data from payroll scientists who ignore the fact that the rest of the energy not coming from the fluid fuel, must come from electricity.
