I've probably asked this before, but has anyone bought one of these wagons at a Homier sale before?

1 Ton 4-Wheel Wagon with Dump Kit--

7 Ft. Long bed has removable side racks
2" Channel steel tongue
1-1/2" x 1/4" Steering tie rods provide maximum stability
Wood not included
16" x 6-1/2" Flotation tires on 8" steel wheels
Shipping Weight: 253 lbs

The price is real good at $199, but all of the ones there are unassembled in the box, and they have none out on display.

I haven't met anyone on TBN yet who has one. I figured at least one member out of 12,000 has to have bought one!

AndyM, I have not seen them either but have always been very curious. The description says with a dump kit. What does that consist of? Does it include a hand pumped hydraulic cylinder? I always question the quality of Homier, never bought anything from them, but for a thing like a wagon I really wonder if they are the right source for the frame because their prices are low enough that if the wagon is junk, you could still put some $ into beefing it up and in the end be lower priced than many of the other wagon frames I've seen.

And with every brand I've seen I would like to add some additional cross support pieces so it could be decked with some splinter/maintainence free "plastic" lumber, but as that stuff can't support weight over the same spans as real wood, the added support would become necessary.

That also looks like the same one Northern Tool sells for $549.99.

1 Ton Versatility Wagon

We're going to head off to the tent sale this evening when Heather gets home. I'll try and talk her into letting me buy one! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Andy,
I was thinking about that unit for awhile as well as the other country manuf. options. The thing at the end of the day that concerned me was the 1 ton (or 2 ton for that matter capacity). For my purposes I want a wagon I can load with my loader and move stuff around and dump it. A 1 ton wagon is about a bucket and a half. I decided to go another route and picked up a 6-ton set of Kory running gear and am building the dump bed for it now. I must say that it is pretty darn impressive. I towed it from the dealership 30 miles away down the road and could easily pull it much much faster than it was ever designed to go. I have no concerns that it will take 6 tons. With the high floatation tires the bed will be about 3 feet off the ground. I am making the bed 7 x 10 ft. Still small enough to be manueuverable. It was more yes, $950 for the gear + steel, + ag cylinder, but in the end it will last a very long time.

Not to hikjack your post, but since we are talking about dump wagons... I was wondering if anyone had ever used a DC powered HYd powerpack. I am thinking that to make this dump wagon even more useful would be if I could tow and dump it with my truck and not have to hook it up to the tractor Hyd to dump it. I am a little confused by the options on the DC powerpacks as well as a good source for them.

Finally, I do remember seeing a rather extensive discussion of this particular wagon within the last year. Some folks had concerns about the build quality and whether it would actually take a ton.
Best,
Larry

I looked at them too, none were assembled, and the steel seemed a bit light to me, I did buy one of the hyd cylinders though 4x24, it is HEAVIER than other same sized cylinders... it is shipped empty too! must weigh in at 105 lbs or so! hard for me to lift it out of trunk that was for sure! had my crown vic which of corse is a good 4 body trunk /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif only cost somethign like 74 bucks too! /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Please let us know what you think of the tent sale. There's one near me next week, and I was thinking about going, but I have no idea what to expect. It's probably a 45 minute drive, and I didn't want to get there and find that they just had lawn furniture, shovels and grinders for sale.

Cliff,
A lot of their sales depends on the area they have to display merchandise or park trailers. If they have plenty of room for trailers, they bring everything they can including tractors. I've gone to 5 or 6 in the last 2 years and only the last 2 I went to had implements/tractors/wagons. They had no place to store them at the fist places they set up.

Inspector that is SO true:

Akron show is like 7 days long, and has 3 or more trailers parked and full of stuff... mansfield show has 1 trailer and only SO SO stuff.

Mark,
I got an e-mail about an 11 day show somewhere up there a few months ago. They must have had 20 trailers to supply that show /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

We just got back...
The one in Youngstown is in a big tent. In two weeks, there will be one at the Summit County Fairgrounds, in an enclosed climate controlled building. Hopefully the selection there will be better. The annual 11 day sale in Akron always has their full product lineup also.

The one we were just at had probably the poorest selection of any of the ones we've been to. I wouldn't buy most of their own brand of hand tools and power tools, but there are other things there I usually go there to look at...

The selection of recondioned Dewalt tools was very poor, at best, but they did have reconditioned Magnavox televisions for cheap! No tractors /forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif, but they had two of the four foot rough cut mowers for $299, a couple tillers, a rear scoop, and two of the dump trailers...

They actually had one of the dump trailers assembled and on display, but you can tell they've used it for that for a while. None of the nuts and bolts were completely tightened and almost half of them were missing. I'm sure it would be less flimsy if it was assembled correctly and would be stiffer if the wood floor was in place, but as it stood the display model didn't make a very good case to convince my wife that we should buy one. In addition to this, the two that were still in the package were in torn boxes with holes and not taped shut. I didn't want to take the risk that something would be missing. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

The last time I was contemplating this purchase, they had an entire pallet of these, and I could have taken my pick to get the best looking box. I'll check the next sale and give my next update then... /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

P.S. To answer Bob Skurka's question, yes, it does have a hand-pumped hydraulic cylinder, just like a bottle jack. In my opinion, it's well worth the $199, but I have to convince the CFO that it's a "needed" item. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif (long story)

I've been to a number of Homier sales. I've purchased quite a few items, and found some good deals.

But I was at one recently that I didn't buy a thing. If it was my first sale, I probably wouldn't have returned for any others.

There are big differences in the sales, and the prices vary, too. Some of the better/bigger sales run sales on a lot of their stuff.

Oh, and some of the stuff they have is real junk. Be sure you check it out first.

There has been a Homier sale going on here for over a week at least with a big tent in a parking lot. I may have to go check it out this afternoon and see what they have to offer. I'm kind of a sucker for trailers so I might have to check this out. I just hope they don't have any chains or binders on sale. I'm an even bigger sucker for those. /forums/images/graemlins/blush.gif

The sale in Youngstown didn't have any, but they did have a pair of 3/8 chain hooks for $2.99. I meant to throw a box or two into my basket, but forgot. I'm always finding pieces of chain without hooks! /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

Andy,

I went out there this afternoon and saw those. Unfortunately they had "China" stamped on one side so I passed on them as I did everything else there.

I did see one of the wagons there rather loosely assembled. It was priced at $249.99, not $199. It might hold a ton if it was really well distributed and being pulled across a very smooth surface. My old Radio Flyer from forty years ago was probably as sturdy. This is nothing I would want to rely on to actually do any real work.

I even considered it from the standpoint of how sturdy I could make it by welding the connections and still didn't like it. The hinge point for the tilt bed consisted of a 3/16" or maybe 1/4" metal rod run through holes in some very lightweight angle iron. It was held there by the tiniest cotter pin I may ever have seen anywhere.

Needless to say, I was thoroughly unimpressed. I'd much rather spend that money on some steel and build my own. I know I'd probably have more in materials than $250 but I'd have something upon which I could rely for years, too.

Hiya Cliff!

Where is that tent sale next weekend?

I'm not Cliff, but you can go to Homier's website and sign up to get emailed automatically whenever they are having a sale near you (I think it's either within 75 or 100 miles).
Homier Mobile Merchants

As always, you've got to watch everything closely, asmost things are cheap junk, but there's great deals mixed in too.
